Don't Become a Car Thief's Next Victim
by Catelin McGlothlin

Although car theft in the United States decreases slightly every year, it's still a significant problem. According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), the U.S. motor vehicle theft rate in 2007 was 363.3 per 100,000 people. Every 28.8 seconds a car is stolen (2008 FBI data). Theft of components is also a problem, with 75,000 stolen airbags a year reported by the III. The problem is worst in urban areas. The South and West each account for about 36 percent of all car thefts in the country. Taken together, these two regions were the scene of nearly three-quarters of motor vehicle thefts in the United States.

The III reported dismal statistics in 2007 on apprehending car thieves, with an arrest rate of only 12.6 percent. Furthermore, the the National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that year that 41 percent of stolen vehicles were never recovered. If your car is stolen, there isn't much you can do after the fact except call the police and file an insurance claim. Meanwhile, you won't have transportation unless you either rent a car or go out and buy another one. It's much better to take the following precautions to prevent car theft before it happens to you.

* Lock your vehicle and don't leave it running. Your car's door locks are the cheapest, easiest deterrent against car thieves. Don't leave sunroofs or windows open, even on the hottest days. Leaving your car running while you're not around is an open invitation for theft. Law enforcement officials stress that many cars are stolen on a whim for joyriding purposes because the owner made it easy for the thief.

* Parking is an issue, both at home and away. At home, use your garage and lock it up, especially night. On-street parking can be a haven for thieves, especially in high-crime areas, so choose spots with good lighting and a good flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

* Don't give a car thief extra incentive. Take your purse, briefcase, or electronic gadgets with you instead of leaving them in the car. Instead of keeping your car's paperwork in the glovebox, carry it with you and make copies for other family members. Most of all, don't deal with your tendency to forget your keys by keeping an extra one attached to the vehicle somehow. Car thieves know all the best spots to find hidden keys, and if they find yours, they don't even have to break a window to steal your car.

* If you want to add an extra shield of protection, a number of devices are available that can go a long way toward making your car theftproof.

Car security comes in many types and price ranges. At the most basic level, a simple steering wheel lock or brake pedal lock is an inexpensive way to secure your vehicle and is visible to thieves who might be sizing your vehicle up.

The popularity of car alarms is testimony to their effectiveness, and every year they get better. The latest improvements in vehicle security technology consist of highly efficient sensors that detect signs of theft like changes in air pressure, telltale sounds like shattering glass, and changes in elevation from front to rear or side to side. Thieves who jack up your car to remove the wheels or use a tow vehicle to steal your car now have less chance of success. Even the basic alarm consisting of a pressure switch on each door hooked to a siren or the car's horn can go a long way toward chasing off the would-be car thief.

Immobilizing devices, also known as kill switches, work by disabling vital components necessary to start your car, such as the fuel pump or the battery circuit. Radiofrequency identification devices (RFIDs) only allow your car to start if you use an ignition key that emits an electronic signal.

Tracking devices can use either the cars onboard GPS system or radiofrequency technology to track your cars whereabouts after its stolen and increase your chances of getting it back. Some insurance companies offer their customers discounts on tracking devices as well as a premium discount for using these technologies.

Avoiding the car models that are most popular with thieves is another way to keep from becoming a victim. Crooks like late-model luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade and the Hummer H2 because of their high resale price. If a thief has a chance to choose between stealing an SUV and stealing a small car, odds are eight times higher that the SUV owner will be the victim.

Some History Of Buell Motorcycles

6:16 AM

It has been said that Erik Buell, founder of Buell Motorcycles, was born on a motorcycle. While that story is a bit enhanced, Erik Buell did begin riding motorcycles at the tender age of 12. His intense passion of the machine led him create a line of extreme and supreme motorcycles.

In the late 70s, Erik Buell worked his way through school by taking a part-time job at a local motorcycle dealership. He had considerable knowledge of the workings of motorcycles and quickly advanced from trainee mechanic to service manager. During this time Buell also began racing motorcycles at the amateur level. After graduation, Buell went to work as a chassis engineer for Harley-Davidson.

In 1978, Erik Buell recorded the fastest newcomer qualifying time for the Daytona 200 motorcycle race. Four years later he left Harley-Davidson to pursue his dream of designing his own race bike. In 1983, he did just that when he designed and built the RW750 motorcycle specifically to compete in the AMA Formula One road racing class.

Buell tested the RW750 motorcycle throughout 1983 and clocked a top speed of 178 mph during testing at Talladega, Alabama. The first production of the Buell RW750 was released in the fall of 1984.

The following year, the American Machinists Racing Team announced that 1985 would be the last year for Formula One racing. Buell's type of motorcycle would be eliminated from the racing circuit. If he wanted to continue in racing, he would have to go back to the drawing board and begin his design from scratch.

Buell began working on building a world-class sportsbike, powered by the Harley-Davidson XR1000 engine. A total of fifty Buell RR1000 motorcycles were produced during 1987-88. In 1988 the Harley-Davidson XR1000 engines were discontinued and Buell had to further re-engineer his design.

The resulting RR1200 model was introduced in 1988. This model used the new 1203cc Harley-Davidson Evolution engine. Sixty-five Buell RR1200 motorcycles were produced for sale through 1989.

During this time, Buell also introduced the RS1200, a two-seat version of the RR1200 model. Over 100 of these unique models were produced through 1990.

The 1990s produced revolutionary designs to Buell motorcycles. The company expanded production facilities and added a new composite and paint shop, which led to greater flexibility and control over the manufacturing process.

In 1991, Buell introduced a single-seat version of the RS1200. The Thunderbolt S2 was introduced in 1994 under partnership with Harley-Davidson. A sport-touring version, the S2T, was added to the Buell line-up in 1995.

A new line of street bikes were introduced in 1996, including the Lightning S1 motorcycle which was voted 'Hooligan Bike of the Year' by Cycle World Magazine. Other innovations included two new designs of the Thunderbolt motorcycle; the Thunderbolt S3 and the Thunderbolt S3T.

Buell introduced the Cyclone M2 touring bike in 1997 and developed the Thunderstorm engine in 1998.

In 1999, Buell rolled out completely redesigned models of the Lighting and Cyclone motorcycles. Both bikes had new body styles, frame, suspension, larger and more comfortable seats, and bold colors.

At the end of 1999, Buell's new designs and engineering innovations pushed sales to more than 8,000 motorcycles in one year.

Buell has always maintained a close relationship with Harley-Davidson. In February 1994, Harley-Davidson purchased 49 percent of Erik Buell's company and the new Buell Motorcycle Company was born.

Four years later, Harley-Davidson purchased another 49 percent; leaving Erik with a 2 percent share and a long term employment contract. The Buell Motorcycle Company is now a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, Inc.

Green living for the modern citizen: On the Road

6:16 AM

Living green is important these days, but so many are under the impression that recycling, conserving energy and using green products is difficult, expensive or time consuming. The trick to living green is to make the effort you can, and to investigate your options. Buying a hybrid car, for example, is not for everyone, but using fuel conservatively can be managed by any driver.

A car in good nick also uses less fuel, so maintain the engine and your car will love you for it. Did you know that a vehicle in top condition can save anywhere from 4 to 40 percent in fuel, as opposed to a car in bad shape? That's good money, and also good for the environment.
Also, idling for any length of time burns more gas than it takes to restart the car, so don't idle - rather switch off your engine in heavy traffic, when you're waiting outside the school for the kids or when you are stopped at an interminable red light.

So what else can you do to keep driving green?
Well, driving green is not only about the vehicle, but should also be about your behaviour in the vehicle. Speeding, sudden accelerations, and hard braking waste fuel, so drive responsibly and save yourself fuel and maintenance costs. Also, carry a reusable water bottle with you instead of buying a new bottle each time you stop. In America 3.3 million plastic bottles are used every hour but only one in five is recycled,: help prevent the same wastage in the UK by using your water bottles for as long as they last and then recycle them.

Every little thing can make a difference, so do as much as you can and encourage those around you to follow suit. Not only is it good for the environment, but you will also save yourself money in the long run. Like car insurance, which you pay every month to ensure that your expenses will be covered in the event of an accident, making the effort to save the environment will have benefits for civilisation in the future. And, like car insurance, the costs involved are not nearly as high as you might think.

Auto Navigation Systems: Multi-Tasker in Disguise

6:16 AM

Back in the dark ages, it was nearly impossible to navigate the shark-infested waters of Main Street or big city USA without the assistance of a road map or some other major navigational aid. Back then if you found yourself lost you either had to stop and ask for directions at a convenience store along the way or drive along until you found a payphone you could use in order to call for better directions. This process became a little easier once cell phones became prominent and affordable to the masses. Today it has become even better if you can believe it.

Gone are the days when you drove around in circles hoping to find a place to stop and get directions to take you back to the beaten path before your gas tank uses the last of its fumes. Now you can simply use GPS tracking to find out where you are and then get directions to the nearest destination of choice or simply find your way back towards your destination. You can actually go on vacation now without taking a massive road atlas or a half dozen maps of a half dozen states along for the ride. Gone are the days of needing a tour guide in order to fold your maps back into their former positions.

Vacations are now much more relaxed as a result of the lack of stress involved in merely getting there. Not only is getting there easier with the use of auto navigation systems, but getting around once you reach your vacation destination is much easier to handle. This makes the entire vacation experience much more enjoyable to all involved and helps build memories that aren't marred by serious adult conversations about the lack of road signs and a few expletives about the fact that armadillos seem to be the only ones around to ask for directions.

Beyond the vacation factor, business meetings were always a step away from potential disaster before the advent of auto navigation systems that exist to help you find your way in the jungle that has become corporate America. The good and the bad of corporate America is that it isn't only on one coast or another but scattered throughout the country. This means that there are times when you will find it absolutely necessary to take drives in places you may have never considered visiting at any other time in your life. Cornfields, I assure you, begin to blend together and all look alike after a while. Only the most keen of observers can tell at any given time one cornfield from another. This is one of those times when it is almost necessary to have an excellent tool to assist you in navigating throughout the countryside en route to your business destination, particularly if it is in the Midwest.

Many times being late is not an option and being lost in the middle of nowhere is even less of an option. An excellent auto navigation system will help you avoid this possibility all together while also helping you in other instances where weather, road construction, and general traffic delays could cause you to be late for those oh so important meetings.

You will also find that even when your job isn't on the line there are plenty of reasons to make use of your auto navigation system. Work and play aren't the only reasons to make use of systems such as this. Getting to your daughters big day at school or your son's big soccer game even when traffic is snarled to a standstill is another great reason to use this type of technology. In fact, there are situations almost every day in which this technology will prove quite useful if you are of the mind to utilize it. It doesn't really matter what you are using your auto navigation system for as long as you are using it widely and faithfully you are getting your money's worth.

Car Insurance Advice for Senior Citizens

6:16 AM

Who is a senior citizen is a question that gets different answers from different people. But no matter how you define 'senior,' it is still necessary to maintain adequate insurance coverage, especially if you drive. While car insurance is a heavy expense for many seniors, there are many ways to lower costs while maintaining the right amount of coverage for your individual financial situation. Auto insurance is required for every one who drives, of course, regardless of age.

Sit down with a qualified insurance provider and thoroughly review your policy. Make sure it still fits your needs. If you are driving more, you might need additional coverage. But if you are driving less, then you could perhaps scale back on your premiums and save some money while still having proper car insurance coverage.

If you have insurance policies on your home or life, look at having all your policies with a single provider. This is called bundling and it?s a great way to save a lot of money on insurance premiums. It also adds convenience and ease to managing multiple insurance policies because you only have to work with a single insurance provider. If you bundle your policies, you can also work with the insurance provider on a single due date or dates for your premiums in order to make managing your bills easy.

Ask your insurance provider if they offer senior citizen discounts. Many providers also offer discounts to members of certain groups, like AARP, or other clubs or organizations. If there is more than one driver in your household, ask if there are discounts for multiple drivers or multiple vehicles.

Never buy coverage you don't want, don't understand, or don?t' need. Many agents will try to sell you riders, that is, coverage for additional events that are often not necessary and always cost you more money. Never feel pressured into buying something you don't need. If you inform your agent that you are not interested in the rider and they insist you take it anyway, then it's time to find a new company.

Also, don?t purchase anything you don?t understand. Keep asking questions and have the insurance provider explain it until you do understand. Don?t be embarrassed or afraid if it takes several explanations for you to understand something. Make sure you get everything in writing. Review all contracts thoroughly, and don?t sign anything you don?t understand or like.

Finally, if you are not satisfied with your insurance provider, shop around and get new insurance quotes. Make sure your needs are met and that you have the insurance coverage you need without breaking your budget. Even if you are satisfied, it never hurts to shop around to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

No matter what your insurance needs, always be sure you buy from an authorized and licensed insurance agent. They can help you examine your situation and offer a policy precisely tailored to your needs, and answer any questions about coverage and premiums.

The Many Uses of GPS Vehicle Tracking Systems

6:16 AM

Of all the wonderful new technologies that have entered our lives over the past couple of decades, few have had as much impact as GPS, geographical positioning systems. The concept of GPS is that a small receiver uses satellite signals to figure out exactly where it is on the planet. GPS has revolutionized navigation and transportation, enabled mapping systems in millions of vehicles, and is being used in myriads of other applications. When I turn on my phone, it often politely inquires if it may use its internal GPS receiver to determine its location and thus make available a whole bunch of services no one dreamed would be possible just a few short years ago. And GPS is being used in more and more applications where it is important to know one's exact location or the location of equipment. One of the most exciting applications is GPS tracking.

In a GPS tracking system a small GPS receiver is installed in a vehicle where it works in conjunction with a cell phone and a variety of sensors. This means the vehicle does not only know where it is, it can also report its location and a variety of other data. This information can then be used for monitoring or for triggering certain actions. In essence, GPS tracking means you always know where your vehicle is, where it is going, and how fast it is going. Depending on the sensors installed, the tracking system may also report on mileage, fuel mileage, miles traveled, fuel left in the tank, engine condition, onboard temperature, outside temperature or whatever type of information is needed. GPS vehicle tracking systems can be employed for personal use or for fleet management applications.

For personal use, a digital GPS tracking device installed in a vehicle can serve as a powerful anti-theft system that shows the location of a stolen vehicle, triggers alarms, and can even disable the starter remotely. This means faster vehicle recovery and possible insurance company discounts. Parents of teenage drivers can use the system to monitor speeds, set geographic boundaries, or just generally know where their children are.

Business uses include all sorts of asset management and vehicle tracking systems. Knowing where a company's vehicles are and what their status is can improve productivity, load factors and overall profitability. It can also cut down on improper use of vehicles. Sensors can report on fuel and maintenance status, improving vehicle reliability and reducing downtime. In addition, the systems also reduce theft via integration into alarm systems, geofences and door lock controls. The potential applications are only limited by imagination.

Over the past two or three years, GPS tracking has become better known thanks to systems like General Motors OnStar and a number of services specializing on theft recovery. Systems such as Millennium Plus and others extend that functionality and add many of the features described in this article. Installation is fairly simple and costs are amazingly low considering the potential benefits from a tracking system. A single theft or accident prevented though such a system justifies its costs, and for business uses it is practically a no-brainer with vast profit potential.

Airbags Are Not Designed For Children

6:16 AM

Air bags are standard equipment in almost all new cars and are designed to provide supplemental protection provided by safety belts in frontal crashes, with the emphasis on supplemental. Air bags are designed to limit head, neck and chest injuries by creating a cushion between the occupant and the steering wheel, dashboard, windshield and other surfaces. But they only supplement safety belts, they do not replace them! They do however increase your chance of surviving frontal crashes which account for approximately half of all crash deaths and serious crash injuries.

Air bags have saved thousands of lives in accidents and have a good overall safety record but unfortunately, there are risks posed by air bags.

Air bags are designed to cushion the head as it moves forward or sideways after impact, thereby offering protection to an average-sized adult. They are deployed within five-tenths of a second after impact at speeds of between 225 and 320 kilometers per hour. At this speed it stands to reason that a deploying airbag can cause serious or even fatal injuries if you are not properly positioned or restrained.

Wearing a properly adjusted seatbelt and adjusting the front seats of the vehicle as far back as possible will reduce the chances of injury. Ideally there should be at least 25cm distance between the centre of the driver's chest and the steering wheel to allow sufficient room for the airbags to inflate.

Keep the space between you and the airbag clear so objects aren't pushed towards you when the airbag inflates if your vehicle has side airbags or curtains in the rear.

Whether you're a child, a frail senior citizen or an able-bodied adult the safest place to ride in any car is in the back seat, properly restrained, away from the impact of head-on collisions. This is even more the case in vehicles fitted with airbags. Because of the potential dangers associated with the deployment of air bags it is recommended that children aged 12 and under ride in a vehicle's rear seat in properly secured child restraints.

The bad news about air bags is that even low speed crashes can deploy an air bag that can cause serious injury or even kill children, short adults or any passengers who are improperly belted. More than 100 children have been killed by deployed airbags and in most of these fatalities, the children were riding in the front seat, either in a rear-facing child safety seat, unbuckled or not wearing the shoulder portion of the safety belt.

This is why it is important to be aware of the potential dangers of air bags and how to properly protect children and adults from any risks associated with them.

Surveys indicate that as many as 35% of young children ride unrestrained. Air bags pose special hazards for any children who ride unrestrained or incorrectly restrained in the front seat. Pre-crash braking can cause an unrestrained child to be thrown against the dashboard in the vicinity of the passenger air bag. This could activate the airbag and the inflating airbag and its plastic cover can impact the out of position child with sufficient force to seriously injure or even kill the child.

Rear-facing safety seats are designed for use in the rear seat of a vehicle. Placing the infant in the front seat of a motor vehicle with a passenger-side air bag is extremely dangerous as during a forward impact, the rapidly inflating air bag could strike the safety seat with enough force to seriously injure or kill the infant.

Forward-facing safety seats, used for toddlers and older children, will place children closer to the dashboard than the normal adult seating position. Therefore, the safest practice is to place all child safety seats in the back seat of the vehicle. The vehicle seat should be adjusted as far back as possible from the dashboard in instances when you have no other choice but to place a forward-facing safety seat in the front of a vehicle with a passenger-side air bag.

In conclusion a few tips to avoid injuries associated with airbags:

- Always wear seat belts and ensure that all passengers are properly restrained.
- Seat children age 12 and under in the rear, properly restrained.
- Do no hunch forward over the steering wheel or dashboard
- Do not lay your arm on top of the steering wheel; it will be forced backward into your face if the airbag deploys.
- Do not allow passengers to rest their feet on the dashboard as their feet and legs will be pushed back at them violently if the airbag deploys.
- Sit up straight with your back against the seat and your feet flat on the floor.
- Never place books or heavy items on the top of the dashboard
- Move the front seats as far back as reasonably possible to allow sufficient space for the airbag to deploy in the event of a crash.
- Have pedal extensions installed if your legs are too short to reach pedals comfortably when seated with your chest 25 cm from the steering wheel, or if you cannot see over the steering wheel without leaning forward.

Your car insurance will cover the replacement of you airbag in the event of an accident. It is your responsibility as driver to ensure the safety of all the passengers in your vehicle.

Auto Dealers Have The Cars - Do You Have the Knowledge?

6:15 AM

After the purchase of a house, a car is the next biggest item most of us buy. Knowing which car is the right one for your budget, and your mechanical skills (or lack thereof), for your family's needs and lifestyle can be confusing with so many models on the market and auto dealers competing with each other for your attention.

Especially if this is your first car, you should check reviews, such as those found at the Consumer Reports website, and study the reviews and ratings on cars in your price range. Even if you have a preferred company, and you're thinking of trading in your existing car for the latest model, wait until the review is in to get a good idea on any drawbacks you may encounter or wish to avoid altogether.

Once you've got a good idea about which cars are reliable, you really need to factor in your lifestyle. Are you single or married with kids? Do you have a long commute everyday or do you use your car mainly to tool around town after work? What kind of climate are you in and will your vehicle be used in rural settings or mainly in the city?

Doesn't matter if you live in the San Fernando Valley or Utah County, auto dealers have the cars that will meet your needs: a four-wheel drive would be useful in an area that experiences deep snow, for instance; while an automatic mini-car or hybrid could a great car someone serious about eco-friendly fuel efficiency. Don't forget about air-conditioning if you live in the south, and remember to ask about the car's towing capability if that's something you plan to do (summer camping trips come to mind).

The base price of a car is of course very different than the actual money you pay to drive the vehicle away, and many of the extras are somewhat to blame. Only buy what you have predetermined you need. This is the same kind of advice given to grocery shoppers (which is: never go food shopping while you're hungry) -- otherwise, you risk making spur-of-the-moment choices that are unnecessary and drive up the cost.

Certainly take advantage of any year-end sales or inventory clearances offered by local auto dealers, but don't feel pressured into signing on the dotted line until you've gone home and compared the offers available. Take each car you are thinking of buying out for a test drive, and keep notes on what your thoughts are. Hit the brakes; accelerate hard; parallel park and back up. Sit in the back seat, and open the truck or hatchback to see how much room (or how little) there is.

The Ford Kuga - An Ecologically Sound 4X4?

6:15 AM

The general opinion amongst the green set is that 4X4s are vast, smelly, CO2 burping monstrosities that are single-handedly destroying our planet and everything we hold dear. Of course that opinion is slightly exaggerated, but it has to be said that SUVs, MPVs and all other permutations of the 4X4 aren't exactly doing Mother Nature many favours. What further confounds those against these vehicles is the manner in which they are used. Most 4X4s, though designed for rough terrain, barely see any action beyond the school run and maybe a trip to the supermarket at the weekends. This seems criminal after all the feats of engineering that have been invested into producing a prime, lean, off-roading machine. That is, until Ford unleashed the Kuga.

The Ford Kuga aims to alter these negative perceptions of the 4X4 by offering the consumer something very special indeed; ecologically sound motoring. Yes, you read that correctly, the Ford Kuga is the class leader in CO2 emissions with an almost sweet-smelling 169g/km. Add to this a combined fuel consumption of 44.1mpg and you've found yourself a large vehicle that has a conscience.

So with all this environmental consideration you would probably expect to sacrifice all the performance you would expect from a car of this size. Yet again the Ford Kuga has surprises up its sleeve. The 2.0-litre TDCi Duratorq engine has all the grunt you'll require when on rough terrain, but displays a kind of elegance when used in towns and cities. So whether you are tearing around in the dirt, or cruising to the shops, you'll find the Ford Kuga a complete joy to drive.

Interiors have always been a vehicle attribute that this manufacturer has done well and the Ford Kuga is no exception. Inside the spacious cabin you will find all the gadgets and gizmos that you would expect from Ford including Sat Nav, Bluetooth, rain sensing wipers, blue tinted glass, partial leather trim, cruise control, automatic headlights, rear view camera, dual electronic air temperature control, USB connectivity and DAB radio. With all these and the comfort of the ride, you will find the Ford Kuga a very pleasant place to be.

Where the Ford Kuga stands head and shoulders above the competition is in the looks department. Anyone with even a cursory aesthetically-charged sense in their body will be bowled over by the Kuga. It looks big, very big, but has been designed with all the grace and sophistication you would expect from a small hatchback. To put it bluntly, the fact it looks so elegant may put off some of the hardcore 4X4 owners, but it will definitely win over a whole new audience with its curvy and sporty body.

The main plus point about the Ford Kuga is that it seems to be ushering in a new age of ecological motoring and proving that to care about the environment doesn't necessarily have to be detrimental to performance. If you combine that with the fact that it is one of the best-looking new cars on the road and you can't help but feel that the Kuga will be a success. It should also open the floodgates for other manufacturers to all start thinking ecologically when designing their vehicles.

Should I Buy New or Used?

6:15 AM

When you find yourself in the market for a new car, you may be wondering if it is better to buy your car new or used. And, since each option has distinct pros and cons, and you should know the benefits and drawbacks of both before you make your decision. After all, a car is a significant financial purchase; not only because of the price that you pay at the time of purchase but because of the maintenance that a vehicle requires over years of use as well. As a result, it is always a good idea to research your options thoroughly before you make a decision. Either way, dealing with a reputable dealer is a must. Then, whether you are looking for Acura used cars in Lancaster PA or brand new Lexus vehicles, a good dealer should be able to let you in on which car is best for you.

Before you even begin looking for a car on the lot, think about what type of car you want. Do you have a specific car in mind? A specific year? Does depreciation matter to you? Answers to these questions might be able to tell you if you want a new or used car. If you have your heart set on a brand new, off the lot, zero miles car, then obviously you should be buying new. However, if you want a certain brand of car but aren't concerned of its year, buying a used car might be the best option for you.

Remember that a brand new car will lose about 60% of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot. If that is something that bothers you, consider buying a used car with very little miles in lieu of a brand new car. You're most likely to get a better deal that way, and still have the satisfaction of having an almost new car.

Whichever you decide, make sure that when you're looking for cars that you do so with a trusted Acura used cars in Lancaster PA dealer who can give you the best advice as to what kind of car is best for you. Ask plenty of questions concerning the condition of used cars and what kind of history they've had, so that you don't end up with a lemon. And above all, do your research so that you don't end up with any unpleasant surprises when the experience is over.

The Kia Pro Ceed Offers Exceptional Quality

The publics and car critics previous conceptions that Kia only make cheap and uninteresting Korean cars has been dispelled with the launch of their Pro Ceed range last year.

The Pro Ceed offers exceptional quality, at very affordable prices. This 3 door hatch is Kia's sporty version of their popular 5 door Ceed. It is slightly longer and lower than the Ceed giving a sleek and streamlined look.

With the longer front doors access to the rear seats is very easy. The Pro Ceed provides plenty of headroom in the front and despite the sloping roof still allows taller people to sit comfortably in the back without brushing their heads on the roof. Rear leg room is also generous for a sporty car. Comfortably seating four, and at a squeeze five, the Pro Ceed offers an un-cramped interior.

The entire Pro Ceed range comes with alloy wheels as standard and useful iPod compatibility, with both USB and AUX sockets, as well as a CD player.

The luggage space is generous for a car in this class. With rear folding seats you would be hard pushed not to get all of your luggage safely stowed away. Kia have also utilised inside storage effectively, there are plenty of accessible storage spaces in all models.

Kia have included two petrol and three diesel engines in their Pro Ceed range. Four models were launched last year, the final diesel model was launched this February.

The Pro Ceed has a smart sporty look with black bezel lamps, body coloured door handles with a trendy metallic trim on the door inlays and console. A range of colours are available, including a very sassy white.

Each model in the range offers good overall road handling with sufficient power for driving in and out of town. With a top speed of over 100mph on all models, far more than the legal driving limits in the UK, the Pro Ceed offers comfort and driving control on smooth or rough road surfaces.

Well built and distinctive styling puts the Pro Ceed into a very favourable position for a car of this class. With an unrivalled 7 year or 100,000 mile warranty the Kia Pro Ceed offers exceptional quality and excellent value for money.

Inside the Pro Ceed is well equipped, nothing too flashy, but all controls are easy to access and operate. Six airbags are fitted as standard on the 1.6 CRDi 3 model, offering safety for both driver and passengers should the car be involved in an accident.

Artificial Intelligence air conditioning has been included to offer complete control for both front and rear seat passengers. Kia also boast that the air conditioning can be directed to the glove box to provide a mini cool box.

With over 58mpg and CO2 (tax) of only 126g/km the Pro Ceed is an economical and ecco-friendly car to run.

If you are looking for a sporty car which is easy to drive and well equipped the Kia Pro Ceed offers fierce competition to its rivals in the same class. Take one for a test drive and judge for yourself the exceptional quality and road handling the Kia Pro Ceed has to offer.

The Safety Standards of Motorcycle Helmets

6:16 AM

In 1972, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (HHTSA) set about creating new minimal safety standards for motorcycle helmets. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218, commonly called the DOT (Department of Transportation) standard, was initiated and signed into law. The act marked the culmination of years of review and analysis. The DOT standard was revised slightly in 1974 and has subsequently undergone other minor alterations, but basically has remained unchanged for more than 30 years.

The purpose of DOT standard 218 is to identify helmets that comply with government standards for helmet safety. It should be noted that motorcycle helmets are not required in some states and that while the Federal Government has set safety standards, there is a general lack of enforcement and oversight by the program. Basically, the government has established outdated safety standards and relies on the manufacturers to comply and attest to their compliance with these standards. Based on the manufacturer's representation, a DOT stamp of approval is placed on each helmet.

This is not to say that the government does not test helmets. Each year, DOT provides token testing and presents manufacturers with the results. However, in 2001, the government inspected just 40 helmets. The Department of Transportation relies almost exclusively on the helmet manufacturers to meet the safety standards. As government-testing requirements are minimal, motorcyclists have long expressed concern over the safety of helmets.

The DOT standard for testing requires that helmets be tested twice at four different impact zones. DOT approved helmets are dropped from a 6 foot height onto a flat anvil and then again from a 4.5 foot height. The manufacturer is required to sign off on compliance with these standards prior to applying the DOT emblem to the helmet. However, in the 40 unit testing performed directly by DOT in 2001, 20% of the helmets failed the test.

In the motorcycle helmet industry, more stringent safety requirements are applied by the independent Snell Standards set by the Snell Memorial Foundation (SMF). The Snell Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing motor sporting helmet safety. The foundation was established in 1957 in memory of racecar driver William Peter Snell and has since served as the recognized leader in safety standards for a variety of sporting helmets. Unlike the Department of Transportation, the SMF aggressively and randomly tests many motorcycle helmets each year.

Land Rover Changes Hands

6:16 AM

Perhaps one of the best known off road vehicles, Land Rover has been making four-wheel drive vehicles for over half a century. The name Land Rover at one time referred to a single specific vehicle but now represents a series of models in the Land Rover fold. The all terrain vehicle was introduced on April 30, 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show.

The Land Rover was designed by Maurice Wilks on the island of Anglesey in Wales. Wilks was inspired by an American World War II Jeep that he used at his home in Wales so much that he set out to create a similar off road vehicle for the British Car company, Rover. In fact, the original prototype for the first Land Rover was built on a Jeep Chassis.

One of the best features of the about the Land Rover occurred as result of post war steel shortages. The shortage required another material be substituted. That material was an alloy of aluminum and magnesium called Birmabright. Land Rover bodies constructed of this light weight material were rust proof and nearly indestructible. The metal's resistance to corrosion has contributed to the popularity and longevity of the vehicle. Over 75% of the vehicles ever produced are still in production. Land Rover drivers often refer to other makes of 4x4's as disposables. Because most of the material was obtained from a post war surplus of aircraft aluminum, the colors of the early models were limited in color to various shades of green.

The engines were extremely simple in design and were created to be serviced in the field. Many advertisements for the vehicle often referred to vehicles being driven many miles on nothing but banana oil. The British Army still requires that the automobiles produced for them retain the simpler 2.5-liter 4 cylinder 300 TDi instead of the electronically controlled 2.5 Liter 5 cylinder TD5 just for the fact that the 300 TDi can be easily serviced in the field.

Ford along with Jaguar has subsequently acquired Land Rover. Some of the models of Jaguar and Land Rover even share components.

By June 2007 Ford Motor Company had decided to sell Land Rover and Jaguar. Several companies expressed interest in the purchase however the sale was delayed until March of 2008. Alchemy Partners, Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra had all showed interest in purchasing the company. In August 2007, the British excavators manufacturer, JCB had been expected to make the purchase, however they were only interested in the Jaguar portion of the deal. Once it was revealed that Ford would only sell Land Rover and Jaguar as a package deal, JCB backed out of the deal.

Tata Motors eventually acquired both Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford, in March of 2008. The Land Rover Jaguar division is still based in Solihull West Midlands, England although it is now owned by Tata. Production of the Freelander w has been moved to the Jaguar Car factor at Halewood near Liverpool, a former Ford car plant. The Defender models are assembled in several locations around the world.

Different Types of Toolboxes

6:16 AM

Toolboxes have so many uses. It can be used in our cars (or automobiles like trucks), in shops and even at home. These toolboxes are use to store all our tools in one place. It makes it more organized to tuck away tools, and easy to retrieve when needed.

Toolboxes have different types, found in different places. It can be found at home, in our shops, in our cars or trucks. Those found in truckbeds are called truck toolboxes. These usually have locks that keep tools safe from theft. They are usually made of metal or plastic. They either have a single lid or double lid opening.

The top mount toolboxes are the popular choice of builders and contractors. These are mounted at the side rail to open easily. Its contents are within reach from the outer part of the truck. They are generally made of aluminum and fit all types of trucks.

The machinist toolboxes are especially designed to suit the needs of machinists or woodworkers. It has multiple drawers to fit the different sizes of tools. This is also ideal for home use. This kind of toolbox is so reliable and durable, it lasts for generations.

Here are some things to consider in buying a storage toolbox. First identify the things you will put inside, the quantity and sizes.

Price may be dependent on the material used. Plastic may be cheaper but still durable. Metals are better than plastics however.

If you will be carrying around more often, you might want to consider one with rollers. You can easily drag them anywhere. Otherwise, a static toolbox will do.

Also choose the one with multiple drawers, front locks and other functions useful to your lifestyle and needs.

These are the types of toolbox for you to be able to choose the toolbox that fits your needs.

Rise of the 4X4 - Loss of My Sleeping Pattern

6:16 AM

I am often prone to making terrible mistakes; often putting myself or others lives at risk. This has been a recurring theme throughout my life and I'm sure it will persist until the day I die...probably in some horrific incident of my own creation. One of the myriad of choices that has come back to bite me rather fervently on the bottom, was my insistence on moving into a flat on a school road. I moved in on the Sunday afternoon and regretted my decision at roughly 8 AM on the Monday. I was rudely awoken by streams of traffic roaring and whirring outside my (sadly single-glazed) window. I noticed that virtually every vehicle of the seemingly never-ending metallic pilgrimage bizarrely seemed to be a 4X4, in which sat one driver and one child. I marvelled at the sheer ridiculousness of the vision before me; hundreds of vehicles designed to hold many passengers, actually transporting a bare minimum. 'The world has gone insane', I mused to myself...there was no one round to hear me so my utterance went unnoticed.

It would appear that the country has gone slightly over-enthusiastic for the 4X4. It seems to have evolved into some kind of badge of honour, displaying privilege and wealth, despite the gas-guzzling engines draining money a lot faster than most of us would be able to accrue it. In conversation with others I speculated on the appeal of these vehicles.

'Why does a vehicle that is designed to spend a lot of time on dirt tracks represent classy living?'

'Why does a vehicle that is designed to spend a lot of time on farms spend its entire working life in towns and cities?'

'Why does a vehicle that has been designed to spend a lot of time struggling through mud and water spend the majority of its working life stood still in traffic jams?'

The answers to my curiosity, like a regular sleeping-pattern, were not forthcoming.

Further investigation revealed the majority culprits behind this unquestionable folly were mainly Range Rovers, Land Cruisers, Explorers and other large pollution machines with equally aspirational titles. By far the strangest title amongst the proverbial pigeons was the Volkswagen Touareg.

The Touareg has the distinct advantage over its competition of not looking too macho or imposing. Its rounded, sporty-looking body was the closest I had seen a 4X4 come to being described as 'eye-candy'. Nevertheless, sit a parent with a disgruntled expression on their face along with a snotty-brat-child and any illusion of style is lost.

I, like the majority of British people, have apathy running through our D.N.A. We are all very much aware of climate change and genuinely want to slow down the effects that industrialisation has had on our planet, but with so much apathy in our bodies it is often hard to motivate ourselves to act in a positive manner. You can't help but feel that those who drive 4X4s on a school run for just one child, might be taking one liberty slightly too many with our fragile environment.

My conclusion is thus; if you live in a town and want to buy a 4X4 for the daily school run, then please at least fill it to the brim with brats before setting off. It's more environmentally conscious that way and I might be able to get some sleep in the mornings.

A Helpful Guide On A Go Kart

6:16 AM

If you want to buy a go kart, then a great way to start the process is to go to a kart track. For a fee, you can drive 2 or 4 cycle go karts for a taste of what type of kart best fits your needs.

It is a good idea to do some research on go karts before you make the investment, in order to be fully informed about what is available. This is an ideal strategy to get a feel for go karting. Here are a few points to consider when contemplating purchasing a kart.

There are two important features to consider when buying a gokart, such as what size do you need and does it come with safety features? Remember to take into consideration the age and driver training of the primary driver operating the go kart. There are gokarts especially designed for varying degrees of experience; from beginner karts for kids under age ten, to intermediate karts for pre-teens, to full-sized karts for the experienced teen and adult.

Since they are so close to the ground, gokarts are pretty difficult to roll. In the rare event that a kart does roll over, most have roll bars or brush cages which provide increased safety. Unless they are for racing, the karts have limited speeds; usually less than 50 mph.

Now is the time to decide whether you want to buy a new or used go kart. There are some important things to remember when buying used. Get to know the seller a bit and ask why he or she is selling the kart. You definitely do not want to purchase a go kart that has a worn out chassis or engine.

Take your time and decide how much you are willing to spend on a used kart. You can expect to spend $800 to $1500 or more for what is called a rolling chassis. A rolling chassis includes the chassis, rims, axle, a gas tank and various other go kart parts.

If you want to purchase a new go kart, then there are other expenses to consider. If you buy a new chassis and engine, you will increase the total cost of your go kart. When shopping for a new chassis, you need to determine the brand you prefer. The better known the brand is, the more expensive it will be.

A new chassis can cost from $1500 to $2500 or more depending on the brand and year. An engine can be bought from a local supplier and will vary in price depending on your preferences, but generally they are anywhere from $750 to $2000 or more.

Hopefully, this has given you some helpful hints to consider before purchasing a go kart. Remember, consider the age and size of the primary driver. Also think about where the kart will be driven and what safety features are available. After purchasing just the right kart, you will be on your way to providing hours of fun for your family and friends!

Before buying your college student a car, look for a good car review online

6:16 AM

As you prepare your high school graduate for life away from home and at college, it can be hard for you, especially since you know that you will not be able to be there to take care of him or her if there is any type of situation or emergency. This is a big step for you and for your child, and you may find that you will want to be able to provide your child with at least a reliable method of transportation. This doesn't mean that you'll go on some random web site and pick the first 'clunker' car for your college student; this means you are going to scour car review web sites and watch every test drive video available in order to make an investment in your child's safety by looking for a reliable, secure vehicle that will serve your student throughout all of his or her college years and beyond.

There are quite a few web sites that offer you different ways to find out about a car that you may be interested in buying for your college student. Obviously, you will want to look at a car review web site, which may compare the different features on a certain make and model of a car and compare it with competitors' options. But reading what a car can do on paper is not enough; you will want to know what the performance of a certain car is as well.

Finally, before you buy your college student the car that you think will keep him or her safe and be reliable for many years to come, you will want to see if there is a road test review video available online so that you can see for yourself what this car can do.

Increase Fuel Economy and Save Cash

6:16 AM

So you want to save some green? All you have to do is drive smart to save green. It is not just about having an eco friendly car. Common sense tells us that if more people took up the challenge our whole country - even the whole world - would benefit in a

1. It has to be said: the very best thing you can do to help the environment with your car is stop driving it! Well unless you are a college student, you may not have that option any longer. The best alternative then is just to drive slower instead. You see, most cars appear to save gas when driven at speeds of between 50 mph to 60 mph. So drive like Goldie Locks, not too slow and not too fast. This is how to drive smart, save green.

2. If you desire to make your car more fuel efficient you could conserve a staggering 20% of your car's fuel consumption just by reducing tire roll resistance! If you are to drive smart and save green then you need to think about this. Simply spend a bit more and buy quality tires. Even though they might cost a little more they will perform better. It is important to note that under inflated tires cost you more in gas bills! So here is another simple way to increase fuel economy, imagine if everyone did it.

3. I'll bet there are many items that you store in your car's trunk that don't need to be there. Lighten the load in your car. Each season go through each item you regularly carry. In spring get rid of your winter emergency gear. If you don't really need it, well recycle it some how. This is the most cost effective wayto drive smart, save green - just drive with a lighter load. That will let your car be more fuel efficient.

4. If you are going to be sitting still for long, switch off your engine while you wait. Realistically, if you are likely to be waiting more than one minute than restarting your engine burns roughly about the same amount as one minute of idle time. So it is worth considering if you think you will be idling for more than a minute, cut the engine. You'll save gas and money - drive smart, save green.

5. Drive in a more gradual and smooth manner. While really this one might be obvious on its face, it should be the unspoken rule of drive smart, drive green. Erratic driving full of sudden starts and hard braking uses up a lot of extra gas. Not to mention the extra wear and tear on your car, which means extra costs to you and the environment.

So as you can see, learning to drive smart, save green is basically just common sense. Some people really need their cars to get around. It that is you, then learn to drive it responsibly and sensibly. The best alternative is if you can walk easily to where you need to go, then just do it! Walk across the parking lot to the video rental store. So if you must drive than drive smart, save green when you can't walk.

Car Tips In Buying Used Car

6:16 AM

I have always purchased my cars used. And every single time, I got a great deal because of a few secrets that is easy to do.

These secrets will save you money. And the good news is there is no luck involved.

If you follow these steps you are guaranteed to save lots of money, so please pay attention.

BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #1 - Check Consumer Reports on the safest cars out there. Looks are one thing, but never ignore safety.

Here's what you do: Go to a reputable car repair shop and ask if you can bring the vehicle by for a look-over.

There is a 99% chance they will say 'yes'.

While you're there, ask what cars they have to repair most often. Also, ask what the inspection includes, how long it takes, and the price. Always get this information in writing - just to be safe.

Once the vehicle has been inspected, ask the mechanic for a written report with a cost estimate for all necessary repairs.

Be sure the report includes the vehicle's make, model and VIN. If you decide to make an offer to the dealer after approving the inspection, you can use the estimated repair costs to negotiate the price of the vehicle.

Do you see how easy it is?

Are you going to purchase from an individual? If yes, then here is your next tip.

BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #2

Remember, private sellers generally are not covered by the Used Car Rule and don't have to use the Buyers Guide. However, you can use the Guide's list of an auto's major systems as a shopping tool.

It's simple.

You can ask the seller if you can have the vehicle inspected by your mechanic. If he/she says no... beware. No matter how nice the car appears, something fishy is going on.

Now, a private sale likely will be on an 'as is' basis, unless your purchase agreement with the seller specifically states otherwise. If you have a written contract, the seller has to live up to the contract.

The car also may be covered by a manufacturer's warranty or a separately purchased service contract. But that doesn't mean that the warranty and service contract are transferable.

Plus, other limits or costs may apply. Before you buy the car, ask if it's still under warranty or service contract, and review that baby carefully.

Some states will require vehicle sellers to pass a vehicle inspection before a sale is made. That's not always the case, though. To find out what your state requires, contact your state Attorney General's office or a local consumer protection agency.

Hey, it's just a phone call. And it will take less than 5 minutes.

Whether you end up buying a used car from a dealer, a co-worker, or a neighbor, follow these tips to learn as much as you can about the car:

BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #3

Examine the car carefully yourself using an inspection checklist. You can find a checklist in many of the magazine articles, books and Internet sites that deal with buying a used car.

Once I bought a used car in August, and never thought to test the rear defroster. Guess what? Come November, I found out it didn't work. If you're shopping in the summer, don't forget to check the heater. And if it's cold as ice outside, still turn that air on full blast and make sure it works!

Test drive the car under varied road conditions--on hills, highways, and in stop-and-go traffic.

Ask for the car's maintenance record. If the owner doesn't have copies, contact the dealership or repair shop where most of the work was done. They may share their files with you.

Talk to the previous owner, especially if the present owner is unfamiliar with the car's history.

Have the car inspected by a mechanic you hire.

There you go.

Follow those three 'used car buying' tips and you are guaranteed to save a ton of money buying a used car.

Spoilers Erupt Exterior Passion

6:16 AM

If you already own a car that came with this curious, curvaceous board fastened to the back, it is not unreasonable to think that you probably take it for granted. Or it could be that the spoiler was one of the reasons you chose your ride in the first place. But for many, spoilers are an aftermarket objective that creates both desire and intrigue. What is it about them that make spoilers so popular? Why do drivers seemingly everywhere clamor for this upgrade if the top of their trunks lay bare?

Some will say it's the customized style or expression. Others will tell you that they like the aerodynamic support they get when zipping down the highway with reckless abandon. The answers vary from place to place and driver to driver. It doesn't matter though, as one thing's for sure: spoilers can cause a custom explosion when fitted on the right piece of machinery.

What Are Spoilers For?

The design and implementation of automobile spoilers dates back to decades ago and the early days of stock-car racing. It was thought, and logically so, that it was possible to mimic (albeit on a much smaller scale) the airflow disruption that spoilers on airplanes provided. It is this airflow disruption that reduces drag on any object in motion. Since airplanes travel at high speeds, it is crucial for them to remain at a stable course throughout flight. Without them, there would be major turbulence, if not concurrent crashes. To be able to reduce the instability that cars may see at faster speeds, a rectangular panel fashioned out of sheet metal provided the basis for early prototypes. After trial, error, and almost four and a half decades worth of evidence, we have the spoilers that are visible on the road today, and there are different styles and shapes that are put into service.

Custom & Factory Spoilers

Most aftermarket spoilers you see are either custom or factory. Custom spoilers are available in a variety of styles, all geared towards driver-preference. There are several types of custom spoilers that have positively exploded on the current market. One of the most popular versions includes a dynamically squared wing that features pedestals (brackets) that hold the spoiler up, and can be painted a contrasting color for extra fashion-sense or shaded to match the body. Many times, they are even wider than the trunk, suggesting racing aggression and style (this is the method that is featured prominently in most auto accessory publications). Another type of high-rising wing custom spoiler that makes headlines includes a sweeping arch that presents a widened gap between the spoiler itself and the trunk. But when it comes to custom spoilers, no style is really off limits - that's the key. Custom spoilers are not the standard, by any stretch. But that is what makes drivers so attracted to them: they stand out. Fixed on the right car's rear, a custom spoiler can demonstrate an image that is nothing short of awe-inspiring, and awakens the entire vehicle.

Factory spoilers are frequent additions for a wider spectrum of drivers. Factory spoilers are ordered to match the color and dimensions of your car precisely. They are basically the spoiler that you wish your car came with, hence the term 'factory.' Factory spoilers, like most other types of spoilers, can be ordered to come in an exact OEM match color, which is most often the case. Some drivers actually prefer to receive their factory spoilers unpainted so that they can be in control of the painting process, whether to have it done privately or wait until after installation. What makes factory spoilers such a palatable option for many is that they even seem to blend in perfectly with vehicles that you normally might not associate with such a trait. It is for this reason why you might be surprised by the eclectic groupings of drivers who go for the factory spoiler look. They are designed to replicate the OEM direction for that specific vehicle; therefore you rarely see mismatches between the spoiler and the exterior design. Factory spoilers can perhaps be viewed as the leader in this aftermarket genre.

Both custom spoilers and factory spoilers can come 'lit' or 'un-lit.' Lit refers to the optional brake light that would be centered inside the wing's casing. A lighted spoiler, whether custom or factory, is often an excellent safety feature depending on the type of vehicle. With this option, the spoiler can act as another avenue of defense for larger trucks that are galloping behind. Most companies offer this viable custom choice, and are certainly recommended for a second look.

Rear-Roof Wings & Lip Spoilers

Spoilers are not just designated to be trunk ornaments. The roof of your vehicle can see some action as well. Rear-roof wings are a dashing member of the spoiler family that many drivers are starting to become increasingly attracted to. Rear-roof wings, like traditional custom or factory spoilers, are normally painted to match the body. The most common shape and placement of rear-roof wings is very much a combination of a lip spoiler and factory spoiler. They are mounted (or placed) right above the rear window and angle in a similar fashion to regular spoilers. This version is not normally ultra-aggressive, and normally do not present a steep slope (although they could). They are a fantastic addition for turbo-loving enthusiasts and sensible SUV drivers alike. Many different kinds of drivers prefer different styles - a 'gimme' statement, but never more true when pertaining to automotive customs, especially spoilers. And not every driver desires a ferocious statement being made.

For those who prefer a more subtle but no less appealing spoiler upgrade, there is a solution: lip spoilers. Lip spoilers approach right off the 'lip' of the trunk (or as a rear-roof adornment, as well as other parts of the vehicle that we'll discuss at a later time). Lip spoilers are embedded flush onto the trunk and do not feature pedestals. Rather, they peer up slightly, delivering a luxuriously promising image that the more upscale sedans have been known to express. They can be secured either with screw-mounted hardware but most often come with ultra-grade 3M adhesive that makes for a near effortless installation - a fact that doesn't get lost on most consumers (rear-roof wings also can be installed using 3M tape). While lip spoilers are an admired aftermarket choice and can be categorized often as a 'custom spoiler', many luxury automakers are starting to include them as a specific trim-level option.

Materials, Ordering, & Installation

Spoilers can be comprised of several different materials, and this mostly depends on the manufacturer, not the type of spoiler. Fiberglass and ABS plastic have long been the two most common substances preferred by the majority of spoiler producers, but silicon and carbon fiber are starting to come on more and more. Fiberglass layering and contouring involves a process that is as specific as they come. Whether filled with foam or derived with plastic, the length has to be proportionately contoured to meet the vehicle's dimensions. If the measurements are off just a fraction of an inch, the entire spoiler is corruptible. Not only will it look unattractive and laughable, but it can also be a detriment on the road by throwing off the wind variants that permit airflow re-ordering - hence the reason why spoilers were invented in the first place (remember?). Carbon fiber is a durable, sleek material that is used as an ingredient in numerous aftermarket parts. Carbon fiber spoilers are hot items. They are also quite expensive and not fully available for as wide of a selection of makes/models as fiberglass and ABS plastic.

Ordering a spoiler can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. That may sound ambiguous, but you would be shocked by how many drivers think they want one type of spoiler, pay for it, receive it, and then once it is mounted, decide it doesn't look right. And of course after that, they want to send it back, blaming the company for this oh-so-tragic occurrence. While ridiculous, it is a good example of being an unprepared customer. To stave off such a distinction, make sure you know what you want. I always recommend viewing countless pictures of spoilers, especially if you can find them shown on your model. Here is where you will get a good idea of what your new spoiler could be capable of. If you want to go with a custom spoiler, internet searching all of the flavors and options can take you just couple of moments. And of course, pay attention to the ones you see on the road. Figure out what it is that you like about them, and also in what way you feel a spoiler will compliment your ride. This is usually the second most enjoyable part of the experience!

Installation is not the challenging task that you may believe it to be. As mentioned above, lip spoilers and rear-roof wings can be set using 3M auto adhesive. For those who may be unfamiliar, 3M double-sided tape is basically impenetrably strong and will undoubtedly last a very long, long time (if not forever). Custom and factory spoilers usually require a bit more, but are still simple installations in their own right. With either of these rear spoilers, they typically come with mounting hardware and components (although some do use 3M tape instead). Now, as soon as I mentioned the word 'hardware', you may have gotten nervous. Don't. Hardware in this case merely refers to the screws and such that you would need. However, light drilling may be involved, depending on the spoiler. If this is the case and you do not feel totally confident, any halfway decent restyling shop can handle this installation extremely quickly.

The Difference Between 'Seen' and 'Unseen'

At the end of the day, we can talk aerodynamics, down force, materials, and everything else. But what it comes down to is how much you want your vehicle to express itself. And there are obviously different ways to go about that. Few aftermarket modifications wield the kind of power that spoilers do - that much is a given. No matter where you are, you notice a car that has one. Whether in traffic, in a parking lot, or just passing you by on the highway, spoilers catch your eye. I am certain that if you take a second to think about it, you will agree. That is a spoiler's biggest advantage. From factory spoilers and custom spoilers to rear-roof wings and lip spoilers, there are boundless selections that touch every driver's sensibilities. The trick is knowing your own style, both on the road and on the curb, and going from there. Because once you figure that out, a primed, painted spoiler takes care of the rest.

The Best Way To Combat Car Depreciation

6:16 AM

The credit crunch has claimed many casualties and threatens to continue for even longer than the government had initially believed. Many industries have been affected, not least the retail industry as people curb their shopping habits and tug on the purse strings. Another industry that has been badly affected has been the car industry.

You only have to click on Google news each morning to read about another car manufacturer having to close their production plants for the next couple of months or having to let go 'x' amount of staff. People just haven't got the confidence to buy brand new cars - there just isn't the demand for them at the moment.

Another factor that puts prospective buyers off purchasing brand new cars is depreciation. The rate that cars, especially brand new cars, depreciate has never been so fast. Brand new cars, in full working order with average yearly mileage can depreciate anything up to 25 per cent after just one year of ownership.

So where do you find value in the purchase of a car? The bottom line is... You very rarely do, unless you look after a car properly, keep it for years, and it becomes a classic. So, if you're looking for a car that is comfortable, practical, stylish, efficient, reliable and holds its value better than most, you couldn't go far wrong than a MINI.

Since BMW purchased Rover and completely revamped the Mini, demand for these loveable hatchbacks has never waned. Also, because of their build quality and timeless style, Mini dealerships continue to perform well, thanks to the popularity of this old British classic, which has been fused with German motoring efficiency and engineering quality, although the newer MINI One has a British built engine.

When the MINI was first released, some fans of the original Mini were disappointed with BMW's end product, mainly due to the increase in size of the MINI (22 inches longer and 12 inches wider than the classic Mini), but also as many purists felt the MINI is just a BMW with a Mini badge on it. And essentially they are correct, but this is by no means a bad thing, unless you're xenophobic.

Since production of the MINI began in 2001, more than one million have been produced and sold in the UK alone - Mini dealerships were inundated with orders for the new MINI, emphasising the fact that whether you love it or loathe it, BMW's decision to design and produce the new MINI has been a success.

A brand new MINI Clubman Cooper S - the latest MINI model - from Mini dealerships costs 17,525 on the road, compared to a one year old MINI Clubman Cooper S with 3,000 miles on the clock available at a Mini dealerships for 16,495 pounds. This is an example of how slowly the MINI depreciates.

In the current used car market, the MINI performs stronger than any other car in the same price bracket in terms of depreciation, just adding to its appeal. At a time where possible car buyers may be hesitant to make a purchase because of the economic downturn, buying a MINI is just about the best car to purchase when taking into account the price tag and recoupable return on that investment when the time comes to sell the car.

Tips For Selling Cars Online

6:16 AM

In today's worldwide economy there is nothing more difficult than trying to sell your car. Selling a car is hard enough for the professional car sales company never mind the average person with no car sales experience.

Sales Methods

Of course driving around with a 'for sale' sign on your car is an option, but chances that you will actually sell your car are rare. 'There are auto sales classifieds that accept advertisements for cars but I cannot sell my car for free having to pay for an ad'. One of the best ways to sell used car(s) is online.

Online Sales Tips

Try and list your vehicle in as many places on line as possible. There are plenty of free advertising sights on the web. Try and get on the first page of these websites and those searching for a car will rarely go beyond the first page or two.

Emphasize your car's best features when vehicle advertising. Power windows, sunroofs, high tech stereo/cd systems and good mileage are all excellent selling points to advertise. And if you have a vehicle with low mileage be sure to feature this aspect of the car, as it is a primary characteristic that most buyers look for.

Provide a lot of pictures of your car. Shoppers love to view photos and the more the merrier. This is a great way to sell car features and emphasize the high points of a car. Include pictures of any imperfections, as this will generate trust in a potential car buyer.

Clean your car before listing and taking pictures. This is another way to sell it online. Photos of a clean car will lead to a higher chance of a sale than a car that has not been detailed.

Finally offer a competitive price. You do not want to sell a car at a bargain basement price if you want a good return on your investment. In addition, an excessive price means there will be very little chance of selling your car

Motorcycles History And Gear

6:16 AM

Motorcycles have come a long way from the early designs in the 1800s to the different types available in the market today. This article takes a look at the history of these machines to see how much they have changed throughout the years. The early motorcycles were essentially motorized versions of the safety bike, a bicycle which has wheels of the same size.

Several inventors tried their hands on creating their version of the motorized safety bike but none would be as significant as the one invented by German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1885. Their bicycle was powered by a petroleum-fed engine. Later designs by other inventors chose to use the internal combustion engine which was a relatively new invention at the time.

But not all early motorcycles were run by fossil-fuel-powered engines. In 1867, an American inventor Sylvester Howard Roper created a steam-driven engine. Another was by a Frenchman, Louis-Guillaume Perreaux created a motorcycle based on the same concept in 1868. By the early 20th century, the race was on for the production of motorcycles. Different companies included motorcycles into their line of products such as Triumph which originally produced bicycles.

Several companies were also created that specialized in motorcycle production such as Harley-Davidson and the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company. The use of motorcycles gained even more popularity after WWII when veteran soldiers rode these vehicles to give them the sense of adventure they felt during the war. In the 1950s to the 1960s, a new player came into the market. Japanese motorcycles went in and later on dominated the world of motorcycles. Japanese brands still have a large share in today's motorcycle production, but American and European brands like Harley-Davidson and Ducati maintain a high degree of loyalty among its users.

Motorcycling Gear and Accessories : Motorcycles are unlike any other type of vehicle because of their design. They typically have two inline wheels which make them inherently unstable. Aside from that, each type of motorcycle aims to tackle a particular need or situation. Because of that, there are several accessories that protect the rider and address the demands of his/her bike. Below is a list of some of them.

1. Crash helmet : this is by far the most important accessory that any motorcyclist should have. Since the bike is unstable, there are more chances of a fatal crash than any other type of vehicle. For example, there are no airbags to cushion the impact, not even a seat belt. A crash helmet is the one which absorbs the impact to the head in case of an accident. Riding without it could have fatal consequences.

2. Gloves : are essential to any rider. For one, they help keep off cold from the hands when driving in colder climates. Also, they are tough enough to protect hands from abrasion in the event of a crash. And there are specialized varieties that are designed to be weatherproof.

3. Boots : more than just adding to a rider's cool factor, a pair of motorcycling boots protects the feet of the rider in the event of a crash. That is why the boots should be tough enough to protect the feet from abrasion and impact.

4. Clothing : motorcycle clothing of old used to be made of tough leather which does well in protecting the rider from abrasion during a crash. But more and more riders now choose clothing that is made of synthetic materials since they are breathable and addresses some safety issues associated with riding motorcycles.

The Chrysler Sebring - An American Alien?

6:16 AM

The life of a Sales Rep must be a very strange one indeed; your life is essentially constantly in a transitory state. It is a life spent on motorways; take-out coffee in beverage holder and unopened Ginster's Pasty on the passenger seat. The handsfree mobile phone kit never stops ringing long enough to get through even one song from the hastily bought CD Power Ballads compilation from the last service station. Uncomfortable surroundings, excessive travel and poor diet mean that your average sales rep (though personable and up-beat on the exterior) is a bitter wreck of anger and bile on the inside. OK, maybe that is a bit too far, but a life on the road isn't going to be pleasurable unless you have the right transportation to move you around. Thus the Saloon was born.

The perennial favourite Saloon in the UK is the Ford Mondeo; a car so popular it has coined the phrase 'Mondeo-man', the term used largely to describe the very typical demographic who drive it. There are other popular options to consider however: The main competition for the Mondeo's crown includes such automotive luminaries as Volkswagen's Passat and Audi's A4. The choice seems solely dependent on whether the Rep in question works for a blue chip company and has a company car (expect to see an Audi of BMW), or is paying the petrol costs themselves (most probably a Mondeo or Honda Accord). There are, however, other manufacturers trying to get in on this lucrative marketplace. One such example is the Chrysler Sebring.

To a majority of British drivers, American cars don't represent a viable solution to a good drive on our roads. A lot of American cars have notoriously heavy handling, which is perfectly fine on long, straight interstates, but around curving and winding country roads that make up a large percentage of the British road network, they are simply not practical. It would be more accurate to say they were the automotive equivalent of a suicide note; you're last few precious seconds spent wrestling violently with the steering wheel trying to navigate your American car away from the fast approaching trees.

Chrysler have taken British criticism seriously. Rather than accuse us of whingeing and being bad drivers, they have specifically engineered a car for Europe. The resulting Sebring is meant to offer a large American option to the modern day executive, without compromising on handling ability, comfort or performance. It is still a big car and frankly, why would you buy an American car if you didn't want it 'supersized'?

And supersized it is...well the boot is anyway. You could most probably transport a whole horse in the rear storage space on the Sebring. Quite why the Chrysler designers considered it necessary to include a boot the size of an aircraft carrier is a little beyond me, but space is always welcome. There are also a selection of impressive-sounding engines, including a fearsome 2.7 Litre V6 which will make mince meat out of your eardrums as well as the tarmac.

It is a little difficult to see how well the Sebring will fit into the British marketplace; we are famous for our understated reserve after all. The Sebring is perhaps a little more ostentatious than the Ford Mondeo and doesn't produce anywhere as good miles per gallon ration as most of its competitors, so it probably won't attract too many fleet orders from companies looking for company cars. If you wish you were travelling down Route 66 in an outsized saloon instead of tootling along the A46 in your Mondeo though, the Chrysler Sebring might be worth a look.
