Can Your Auto Loan Provider Turn Off Your Engine?

6:15 AM

Over the next few years, people who are thinking about purchasing a new vehicle may be in for a surprise. Many auto dealerships are outfitting new and used cars with devices which can deactivate the engine remotely. The reason: to make repossessions easier.

As more people lose their jobs, they're forced to prioritize their bills. Some bills have to wait while others are put on top of the stack. Dealers and lenders want to ensure that their customers make their payments on time. The shut-down units that are installed into automobiles provide the motivation.

In this article, I'll explain how these devices work and describe a few of the issues involved with their use. We'll also take a closer look at how they can benefit customers, dealers, and lenders.

Safety And Other Issues

The shut-off component is installed onto a vehicle's powertrain. Through telematics, a dealership or lender can remotely turn the engine off if the driver has failed to send in his or her payments. Currently, dealers are triggering the device only after a payment is several days late. Before the engine is deactivated, an indicator light will normally display on the vehicle's dashboard. Some companies will allow the deadline to pass in order to give the motorist time to send a payment.

Drivers are understandably concerned that the shut-down device can be dangerous, especially if their engine is turned off while they're driving at high speeds. Most dealers will only trigger the unit once the engine has been manually turned off or while the car is at idling speed.

Protecting Customers, Dealerships, And Lenders

The component was initially introduced for subprime borrowers. Car dealerships and lenders consider such borrowers (those with 'B' credit ratings) to present more risk. In the past, they offset the increased risk by applying a higher interest rate to auto loans. The shut-off units offer an alternative.

By installing them on a car's powertrain, dealers and lenders assume less risk. First, motorists are motivated to make their payments on time in order to avoid having their driving privileges interrupted. Second, the car can be retrieved more easily if payments are not forthcoming. As a result, subprime borrowers can enjoy a lower interest rate when buying a vehicle.

Full Disclosure

It's important to note that the shut-down devices are not hidden from prospective buyers. In effect, they know the vehicles have been equipped with them. Dealerships will usually disclose the unit's presence on forms that require the buyer's signature.

Even though the components were originally meant for the subprime car buyer market, it is likely that more dealers will outfit their vehicles with them over the next few years. In fact, a growing number of credit unions and banks are requesting the device's installation before providing an auto loan. When the time comes to purchase a new car, the component may not be an option.

Smoking Vehicles Are A Hazard To Everyone

6:15 AM

If you own a car that smokes a lot, it could need some major work done on it. This car or truck might be referred to as a smoke bomb or a good bug killer by all who come in contact with it. If you are sitting in a traffic jam and you happen to be near a vehicle that is putting out a lot of smoke, this can sometimes make you sick to your stomach. Sometimes the oil smell will be like the vehicle is right next to you, but it could be half a mile away from you, especially if the wind is blowing in the right direction.

Smoking vehicles often need some work done on their engine or valves. The exhaust might need to be completely overhauled. You will need to have this done as soon as you can because the longer you let it go, the worse it will get. If it gets bad enough, you could get a ticket from a policemen for allowing your vehicle to emit too much pollution in the air. Vehicle that emit too much exhaust are one of the biggest pollution problems on our planet.

When a vehicle has an oil leak, it can also cause it to emit smoke. The worse the oil leak gets, the more oil you will have to buy. A vehicle with an oil leak not only causes pollution, but it will probably only be a matter of time until your engine goes all together if it is not repaired. Oil leaks under your hood are also capable of starting a fire under the hood of your vehicle.

If you are driving a vehicle and it catches fire under the hood for whatever reason, try to move it to the side of the road as quickly as you can and get out of the car. Do not try to raise the hood. With the hood down the fire might smother out, but then again it could also explode. The danger of opening the hood is when the air hits the fire, it can cause the blaze to become higher and more intense quickly. move off to the side of the road. Stand well away from the vehicle and call the fire department if you have a cell phone. If not flag down a passing vehicle and ask them to.

Keeping your vehicles checked out and tuned up on a regular basis will help you avoid some of these issues. Watch for signs of smoke when you start the vehicle or when you are driving. If you notice a strong smell or oil getting hot, have it checked for leaks. Preventing your vehicle from being a smoke bomb will make those driving near you happy and can make it a lot safer for you as well.

Dangers To Vehicles In High Winds And Rising Water

6:15 AM

When driving in rain or high winds, the faster you go the more your car or truck could start to hydroplane. This means that your vehicle will actually come off of the road, leaving you with no control over your car. If this happens, you could end up in a ditch, a creek, or even a river. You might even end up in a home or on another car. The faster you are moving, the worse the damage to you and your vehicle will be. Since you are flying low, as they say, and have no control of your car, you will not know what could happen until it does. This happens when the roads you are on are wet with standing water.

When there are high winds, you definitely need to avoid driving too fast. High winds can get under any car going at any speed, lifting it up and off the road. These high winds can throw your car from a bridge or overpass and send it in flight until this high wind leaves, sending you and your car to the road below. If there are high wind warnings put out over your area, it might be a good idea to wait out the storm if you can. If you happen to be in your car, try to go to the first safest place to stop and sit it out.

As both of these situations can cause you trouble, the best thing you can do is this. Do not go out of your home until you have to and let this storm pass. If you are already out in the storm, try to find the nearest place to go and get inside until it passes. If you come upon some standing water on the road that could be considered a flooded roadway, do not go through it. Try to turn around and go a different way. If the water is just sitting there and it is daylight so that you can see what is ahead, then go very slowly across the water. If the water is moving, stop and turn around and find somewhere to go until conditions improve.

As most of the high water accidents happen from someone not thinking about anything but maybe getting home, we keep hearing about all of these people that get washed away from these sites that have this moving high water. If you really have second thoughts about a puddle of standing water, then never risk trying to cross or continue down the road. It could be a decision that could end your life more quickly than you ever imagined.

Accident Avoidance is the Key Feature of Future Safety Advancements

6:16 AM

It's been more than 40 years since Congress made seat belts mandatory in vehicles, improving automotive safety and helping reduce fatalities in vehicle accidents. Perhaps the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has kicked off another significant safety milestone -- making electronic stability control equipment mandatory in all vehicles, estimating that the universal adoption of this technology by 2011 will save 10,000 lives per year.

Safety equipment has assisted in protecting vehicle occupants for many years, and over the past decade, the emphasis has shifted from passive to active safety systems, including accident avoidance technology. Stability control is among a slew of new auto-safety advancements designed to help prevent accidents. This exciting technology builds on the increasing electronic sophistication of all vehicles.

From cell phones to children to mocha lattes, drivers' attention is sometimes diverted from the road, where their eyes need to be focused. Technology that assists in accident avoidance combines a number of highly sophisticated systems that provide more than warnings. For example: brake, throttle and steering control help keep a vehicle in the right lane, pointed in the right direction and under control.

Some refer to these high-tech safety systems as 'co-drivers' or 'assistants,' but the technology never takes control out of the driver's hands. Depending on the system and manufacturer, the driver is usually given sequential sight and sound warnings before computerized controls engage.

Here are a few of the exciting new accident avoidance technologies that are grabbing headlines.

Smart Cruise Control

Smart Cruise Control systems rely on vision and/or radar technology to maintain a set following distance or time gap from vehicles ahead. This enhances safety and reduces fatigue during long trips in heavy traffic. Each manufacturer provides different parameters for its system; some can operate between 90 mph and a full stop, while others work within a more narrow range of speeds. Some systems adjust speed on distance from the vehicle ahead; others' cruise control systems allow the driver to set a time gap between the equipped car and vehicle ahead. On this system, the same sensors that continually scan the area ahead of the car 20 times a second can also detect a fixed obstacle and imminent collisions. The system not only warns the driver, but it charges the brakes to prepare for a sudden stop.

Collision Mitigation

Collision mitigation takes smart cruise control to another level. It uses forward-looking radar to predict a crash event and autonomously reacts to imminent crash situations. For instance, the system could signal the braking system to charge the brakes for better stopping. These systems are rapidly evolving, and like most sophisticated technologies, they can vary by manufacturer.

Some systems combine two radars: one with a narrow angle aimed at distant objects and a second with a wide angle to measure lateral distance at closer range. The combination gives the car a near 3-D sense of objects around it. Other systems combine long-range radar that focuses on objects, such as other cars, with a short-range beam tuned for people or animals. Some use a multi-mode system that does both. There is also a system under development known as V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) that would locate other cars on the road using Wi-Fi and GPS technology and provide proper warning if it detects a potentially hazardous driving situation.

Stability Control

Electronic stability control (ESC) has been around for a while; it's an outgrowth of antilock braking and traction control, introduced in the 1980s. At its most basic, ESC combines the control of braking and throttle to prevent drivers from spinning out on curves or rolling over in sudden maneuvers. The results of studies suggest that passenger cars with electronic stability control are engaged in 35% fewer single-vehicle crashes than the same models without ESC.

Blind Spot and Lane-Departure Warning

Several new high-tech systems have been designed to protect against side-impact collisions. These systems can warn drivers of other vehicles in their side blind spot by illuminating a warning icon in the side mirror when their sensors detect a passing car. An audible warning may also be given.

A related safety feature is lane-departure warning. If a driver drifts out of his or her lane, a warning is sounded or light goes on. In general, these systems use cameras that capture an image of the surrounding highway and dotted roadway lines on both sides of the car and combine the information from speed sensors to calculate motion and course. They provide an alarm and could intervene with steering to help a driver stay in his intended lane. In some of today's systems, warnings are not given when the turn signal is used to indicate a turn; and a manual override can be used to turn lane departure warning off completely.

While these exciting safety technologies represent a huge leap, the fact is the most effective safety technology will always be the safe driving habits of the person behind the wheel. These computer-aided systems rely on visual cues taken from radar or cameras and certainly are a help to drivers, but nothing will replace a driver's ability to make quick decisions and maintain control -- always the best deterrent to avoiding an accident.

Spotlight on a Make: Chevrolet

6:16 AM

Parent Company: General Motors
Founded: 1911
Headquarters: Detroit, Michigan
Products: Cars, Trucks, SUV, CUV

History

Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss-French race-car driver, and William C. Durant, an American and former founder of General Motors who had been forced out of the company in 1910. Durant and Chevrolet were previously acquainted as Durant had hired Chevrolet to drive Buicks in promotional races prior to his founding of GM.

The 'bowtie' logo used by Chevrolet was first used in 1913. Originally thought to have been inspired by the wallpaper Durant once saw in a French hotel, recent research shows that the design may be based on a logo for 'Coalettes'. In 1915 Durant was setting up production for Chevrolet vehicles in Toronto, Canada during which they agreed Chevrolets with with McLaughlin-designed bodies would be built. Within three years both companies had been purchased by General Motors and became General Motors of Canada Ltd.

By 1916 Chevrolet had become profitable enough for Durant to purchase the majority share in GM and have himself setup as president of the company by 1917.

In 1957 Chevy produced the first fuel injected engine, and by 1963 one out of every ten cars sold in the United States was a Chevrolet.

Since the acquisition of Chevrolet by GM, it has remained the flagship brand for the company, producing numerous vehicles ranging from subcompact to commercial trucks. Its number one seller in the United States is the Silverado truck, one of 18 vehicles offered under the brand.

Chevrolet Around the World

Chevrolet is sold on every continent except Antarctica. Included is: Australia, Latin America (Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina), Europe, Asia, Middle East, Thailand, South Africa, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, and Russia.

Chevrolet sells vehicles in many of these countries under the name Chevrolet. However, some other names used in countries include GM Daewoo, Opel, and GM Holden. In addition to rebranding in other countries, there are numerous makes offered outside the US, including the Commodore (Asia), Optra (Pakistan), Joy (Pakistan), Corsa (Argentina). Here is a complete list of all Chevrolet vehicles, both current and past, inside the US and abroad.

Future of Chevrolet

Chevrolet (and GM as a whole), are currently undergoing a product restructuring in North America, partly due to the economic times, and also as the demand for more viable, eco-friendly vehicles grows. As well as redesigning and rereleasing previous vehicles (such as the Chevrolet Camaro featured in the 2007 film Transformers), Chevrolet will also be releasing numerous new vehicles in the coming years. They include:

- 2010 Chevrolet Beat (previously the Spark) - a compact, 3-door hatchback.
- 2010 Chevrolet Orlando - a five-door, seven seat wagon.
- 2011 Chevrolet Cruze - a 4-door sedan set to replace the Chevrolet Cobalt.
- 2011 Chevrolet Volt - a 4-door sedan with a much touted plug-in hybrid engine.

Watches

In addition to cars, in 2007 Chevrolet launched its first watch collection under the Louis Chevrolet brand, a nod to the founder of Chevrolet who's father was a watchmaker and used to watch him at his workbench. Featuring various models, the watches take their design notes from Chevy vehicles and are manufactured in Courgenay, Switzerland.

Wood Dash Kits - Luxury Personified

6:16 AM

For those of you whom feel that your interior doesn't require additional refinement, I applaud you. Congratulations on having the resolve to stand tight with factory complacency. For the rest of us who are always on the search for extra luxury wherever we can find it, wood dash kits offer a glorious escape from the boring and monotonous 'style-free zone' that most dash consoles come off the line with (or without, rather).

Wood dash kits are more than an automotive accessory; they are a 'second chance' at elegance that only few other options provide. They are also surprisingly affordable, given their far-reaching capability. So if you've ever thought that your vehicle needed an upgrade in identity, a suggestive and enduring dash kit may very well be the answer.

More Than Enough Options to Go Around

Thinly layered wood veneers coated with polyurethane make up the bulk of the industry's finest. These pieces are actually extracted wood, hence the term 'real wood veneers.' These real wood veneers are treated and measured to provide a logical level of flexibility. They are then designed, cut, and fit to exact specifications of a certain model's dash configuration. Other options include synthetic veneers, which are very similar in style and presentation. Some synthetic choices can be limited, depending on manufacturer and vendor. However, a reputable company should offer a wide selection of both real and synthetic, respectively.

For any given model, there are practically dozens of veneers and colors that are available. Most of these selections are referred to as burls (very similar to the type of term referring to wood products such as furniture and etc.). There are veneers that give off a subtle, tasty appeal (Honey Burl, Real Walnut Burl, and Real Rosewood), while many others offer a more striking brand of elegant zest (Real Japanese Cherry Wood, Real Platinum Burl, and Titanium Burl). Some veneers are more popular than others, but almost all of them get some play. Drivers seem to gravitate most towards Real Japanese Cherry Wood. Real Japanese Cherry Wood implemented on certain dashes adds a shockingly attractive dimension. It is a rich, deep grained red that can blend or contrast with most models, and to say that it engages a luxurious look is a severe understatement. I would strongly suggest checking it out the next chance you get.

Wood dash kits don't always have to hint at the decor of a fine English country club. They can also suggest a sporty appeal along with the added hint of sophistication. This is where real carbon fiber dash kits come in. Real carbon fiber dash kits pay homage to the contemporary climate, featuring an increased accent for those who enjoy a futuristic foreground to compete with their interior spread. Real carbon fiber dash kits are a favorite for the more edgy, high-speed type of drivers normally, but they are beginning to see action in every kind of vehicle. You can find the real carbon fiber look on a variety of dash kits, including Real Blue & Black, Real Light Blue, and Real Silver Wire, but there are many more where those came from.

Solid colors are available as well, and like most dash kit styles, come in a vast selection. You have the requisite red, blue, orange, and yellow - these solids are the preferred choice for drivers who own a racing-inspired car and wish to match a color scheme. But there is also Brushed Aluminum and Real Chrome; with both delivering a sizzling refined image once fitted to the contours of most any dash area. It is their versatility why solid color dash kits are so engaging. Along with real wood veneers (which are considered the class of the field), solids enact their own brand of custom enthusiasm for drivers of diverse automotive tastes.

Finding the Fit

Wood dash kits are not universal. They are crafted to adhere exactly to a certain car or truck's dash measurements. In turn, dash kits do not come in just one way. Flat dash kits for a long time were the main choice that most drivers got their hands on, and are still an option for a host of vehicles. Flat dash kits (2D) come in pieces that fit over sections of the dash. This is an important note, as many vehicles' dashes are arranged in right-angled sections in numerous spots. Therefore, one encompassing piece would not logically fit over an entire area. Molded (3D) wood dash kits are a modern pleasure. They still come in pieces - just not nearly as many. Molded dash kits are constructed to fit onto dashes that offer a plethora of curves, contours, and edges. This is crucial.

Because of the advent of 3D molded dash kits, more vehicles are eligible than ever before. Those sleek, curvy dashboards that were once immune to the delicate class that a prime wood dash kit could initiate now have all of the ability their less-than-esteemed brethren have enjoyed for so long. While flat dash kits are still an excellent route for a substantial amount of models, molded kits can certainly be viewed as a wave of the future.

Searching for Your Defining Wood Dash Kit

If you've ever taken a stroll down the soda aisle in the supermarket, you have seen Coke®, Pepsi®, and everything else. There are even the generic brands of cola displayed on the shelves here and there. Now, if you're after a results-oriented beverage that won't rot in your fridge in two days, you'll probably lunge for that bottle of Coke® or Pepsi®. But if you just want something to quench your thirst at half the price and give yourself a stomach ache on top of it, then generic might be your game. It is the same thing with wood dash kits. Quality lasts and imitations don't. There are always customers telling stories how they ordered some fly-by-night dash kit that didn't stick-on right, the edges peeled off, and bubbled up when heat from the vents got to it. This is an example of a victimized consumer being had, and also shoddy quality, which believe it or not, you can find in droves.

I would suggest sticking with Sherwood and B&I when it comes to your dash kit selections. Both companies go through a ton of trouble in producing top-quality dash kits with all of the fits and finishes under the sun. Both companies also have terrific reputations when it comes to precise fitments, eliminating the worry of ordering a kit that 'kind of' fits, but not all the way. If there is one ideal that Sherwood and B&I share, it is that proper fitment is the way they work. With both Sherwood and B&I respectively, you will likely hear nothing but praise from anyone who has purchased one of their wood dash kits, which is more than I can say for several others. You can certainly trust any product with either of their names on it.

The fun part is scanning around for your dash kit's veneer or color. As we covered earlier, there are dozens and dozens of choices. If you drive a branded 'luxury' sedan or SUV, a real wood veneer might be your goal if you are looking to keep up that authentic, extravagant interior image. You may look to check the grain patterns, depth, and gloss. Or if you are more sporting and aggressive, real carbon fiber might be your choice. You definitely have a world of possibilities out there. Be sure to look around and check out as many designs as you can, and then confirm their availability for your vehicle. The odds favor your model being a match for most, if not all. The more reputable dealers also offer samples of veneers and finishes for you to see and hold in person. This may aid you greatly when it is time to decide which one is going to bring all of that class out of your interior!

Installation

Virtually all wood dash kits come backed with automotive-grade 3M tape and a sheet of instructions, or schematic. The instructions display a diagram of your dashboard and surrounding areas with all of the exact specifications. Each piece is normally numbered to coincide with that number on the diagram. After that, it is a simple 'peel-&-stick' operation. Even still, here are the basic installation steps you may want to follow once you receive your wood dash kit:

1) Before affixing pieces (molded or flat), clean the dash. Isopropyl alcohol is highly recommended, as all dirt, must, dust, and oils MUST be removed from the area for the pieces to adhere properly.

2) Be sure to have all dash kit pieces in order along with instructions (diagram).

3) Coat the dash area that will receive kit pieces with adhesion promoter. Do this carefully and deliberately so that it does not 'run' onto surrounding areas.

4) In the event that it is cool outside (below 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit), you may use a blow-dryer to warm pieces. This will enable them to conform easier to your dash.

5) Peel back tape and stick pieces into place. For larger pieces, unpeel bottom-first when sticking. This will allow you to adjust as needed. When satisfied, simply peel away the remaining tape and adhere the rest of the piece.

6) Once content with positioning, press pieces into place firmly. 'Thumb' them down for a tight, concise fitment.

Your Interior Has a Say In Its Looks, Doesn't It?

Wood dash kits play an important role as an aftermarket tool. Most models, regardless of make, year, or trim level do not come with a refined dash surface. It is mostly that plasticky, rubbery facsimile that does little to inspire greatness in your interior. What wood dash kits do is transform a place that was empty and in the background into something that is vibrant and in the foreground. It is that simple. The luxurious and elegantly styled veneers can work magic, even if your model is considered old or 'out of date.' And if your car is right out of the assembly plant, a shimmering dash kit can enhance what is already fresh and exciting. There is, after all, a reason why they exist! And there is an even bigger reason why there is such a broad market for them. Wood dash kits can single-handedly initiate a graceful presence within your ride that you never thought possible. Their accessibility and affordability are what has elevated them to the top of the auto accessory food-chain, and chances are that your vehicle's interior is naked with one!

Use Online Insurance Comparison to Find Cheap Car Insurance

6:16 AM

Online resources make it easier than ever to find cheap car insurance using basic comparison charts. Comparison sites bring to your fingertips reliable quotes from numerous, reputable car insurance companies. Quotes are given based on your personal and driving information, usually provided through a secure online form. The online form basically takes the place of making multiple phone calls to nearby agencies. Instead of contacting car insurance agents one by one, the form transmits your information to several companies all at once.

Once your information is transmitted to various insurance companies, you'll receive a number of quotes based on the criteria and history you've provided. Then you can select the cheapest car insurance that offers the most value for your money. Keep in mind that not all comparison sites are alike. You'll want to use an auto insurance comparison company that connects you with dependable companies with a proven track record.

Also, remember that the cheapest auto insurance may not always be the best. Consider the type of coverage being offered, along with the amount of your deductible. Cheap auto insurance often means a higher deductible, which is fine for most. But you must make a decision based on your immediate car insurance needs.

Beware of Cheap Auto Insurance Pitfalls

Avoid cheap auto insurance offers that seem shady, or those from brand new companies that have not proven to be reliable. What good is cheap car insurance if you can't get a claim processed when you really need it? Suppose you have an accident and total your car (or even someone else's car), and then can't get your claim processed? That would be a disaster...and you really didn't save anything on your car insurance, even with the cheapest auto insurance rates!

Look for cheap auto insurance companies that are listed with the Better Business Bureau. Check for negative reports against the company, and look for signs of neglect when it comes to processing claims or customer service in general. You can also gather valuable information about insurance companies through online forums. But keep in mind that every insurance company that has been around a while will likely have some disgruntled customers. Look for a company that at least makes an effort to resolve issues in a timely manner.

Also, compare your rates with varying deductibles to find the cheapest rate. A deductible of $1,000 might render much cheaper car insurance rates than a deductible of $250. It won't hurt to explore all your options, with various types of coverage. Also, don't miss out on important coverage such as uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. This coverage is crucial in today's society where so many drivers don't have adequate car insurance coverage. Paying a little more on your insurance premium can make all the difference if an accident were to occur with an uninsured or underinsured motorist. The good news is this type of coverage doesn't affect your premium much at all, even though it can save you thousands in the future.

Most of all, read your policy through and through before signing the dotted line. Read all the fine print, and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. Get clarification on any sections you don't understand, and notate the explanations on your written policy. Be sure to get the policy in writing!

With these tips in mind, go online to do a thorough auto insurance comparison. You'll soon find the cheap car insurance you've been seeking!

Tip for Avoiding Heavy Traffic

6:16 AM

Whether you are a seasoned driver with 30 years of driving experience or a relatively new driver, just about anyone can make use of these tips to save yourself the time, hassle and stress that goes along with driving in heavy traffic.

Radio

Every big city has a 24 hour radio station that gives traffic updates constantly. Usually on the AM dial, tuning in to these stations can help you avoid traffic caused by accidents, overturned trucks, stalled vehicles, road construction, high speed chases and whatever else may be happening on the highways. Many times, these stations have traffic copters that are watching the main highways from the air, insuring you get up to date reports.

Internet

Road closures and road work are a leading cause of heavy traffic and highway slowdowns. You can avoid this problem by visiting your state's highway safety web site and checking for road closures and highway construction on your route. In addition, many state website's have live web cams where you can view what many roads and highways look like at the very moment, whether they are covered with snow, it's raining or there is bumper to bumper traffic, you can actually see it.

GPS Device

A GPS device can help you take the quickest route to any destination and make sure you don't get lost, but another way to use these handy devices is to avoid traffic. Many of the newest GPS devices have traffic services included with them. These traffic services update your GPS maps with the latest road conditions, road construction, heavy slowdowns and accidents, while also providing you with an alternate route to your destination. Now a GPS device can save you time and hassle, and maybe even your marriage! These traffic services do have an extra cost associated with them, however.

Common Sense and Experience

There's always a certain road or highway that is loaded with traffic at certain times. It pays to have some first hand experience and knowledge of the area so you know the quickest routes, the best shortcuts and the main roads and highways to avoid at any given time.

Staying Calm

Sometimes, you simply can't avoid heavy traffic. To maintain your sanity, try playing music, mindful meditation, breathing exercises or even singing. These things can keep you calm your mind and help to ease any stress you may be feeling.

The Car Seat Accessory Guide

6:15 AM

You've just had a baby, and now you have to get from the hospital to your house in one piece so you enlist the aide of your trusty car seat. Car seats aren't just for the convenience of having a cozy spot to bundle up your bundle of joy while on car rides; they are also required by law.

Car seats are for safety but they don't have to be just that. While shopping for a car seat you should also be on the look out for these incredible car seat accessories.

The Shoulder Strap Adjuster

Car seats are designed to be safe - but general. They are made 'one size fits all', but unfortunately, babies don't come that way. When you strap your child into the car seat, the shoulder strap should come up across the chest and not the neck. If the shoulder strap comes up across the neck there is the danger of strangulation, or throat trauma if there was ever a car accident. If the shoulder strap is too high up on the child, a shoulder strap adjuster is required to secure the belt away from the child's neck. This is the perfect car seat accessory for the 'little' people in your family.

Infant Head Pillow

Your little creation has a little problem; she can't hold her own head up. When she falls asleep in the car she doesn't have the neck strength to support the weight of her big beautiful brain. Infant head pillows are great travel accessories. They are soft and comfortable, the perfect support for your child's neck and head! This is the perfect car seat accessory for your child's developing brain.

Solar Car Seat Covers

In the winter it is a relief to get into a warm car, but in the summer, putting your baby in a super hot car seat isn't a good idea. How Do You Tackle Depreciation? Buy A Used Lexus

6:15 AM

The car industry is stagnant due to the global economic downturn, in fact new car prices are set to rise despite the shortage in sales with Ford putting their new car prices up by 3.75 per cent, Seat by 3.5 per cent and Nissan by 3.4 per cent, and so the best way for prospective buyers to get value from the car market is to invest in a reliable used vehicle. And for 'reliable used vehicle' read: used Lexus!

Lexus is renowned as a brand that is synonymous with luxury and it is also one of the most reliable car manufacturers in the world today performing highly in reliability tables for consumer experts, Which? And Parker's Price Guide, the motoring experts. And reliability has never been such an important factor when buying a car - today it is just about the most vital factor unless money is no object!

A used Lexus may not be to everybody's taste or suit everyone's requirements yet they hold their value very well and if you like to change your car every couple of years then a used Lexus is perfect for this purpose.

With the car industry having been hit hard by the global credit crunch and economic downturn, sales of brand new cars have been badly affected. European countries such as Germany, France and Slovakia have implemented a scrap for discount scheme whereby you scrap your old gas guzzling polluter (it has to be 9 years old or older) in exchange for a discount certificate offering 2,500 Euros off the purchase price of a brand new vehicle of your choice.

The scheme has been hugely successful in revving the car industry, with sales of brand new vehicles increasing by a staggering 40 per cent in Germany since the scheme was brought in back in January. The UK government are contemplating following suit and implementing a similar scheme in the UK, but whether or not this will happen will not be known for certain until the budget on April 22nd.

If this scheme does get the green light, then that should give the UK car industry a boost, otherwise buyers will continue to look at the used car market as opposed to the showrooms and used Lexus vehicles will become even more sought after than they are at present.

A used Lexus can offer amazing value if you shop around - a three year old Lexus IS250 can be had for as little as 8,000 pounds which is unbelievable given that a brand new IS250 will set you back around 30,000 pounds! Luxury doesn't have to be had by the pomp and privileged - at these prices it can be had by mere civilians also!

Change Your oil With Yourself Can be Fun and More Cheap

6:16 AM

You can do it yourself, there's nothing to it, no matter what kind of car it is because there all the same when it comes to adding and changing the motor oil. Oil is everything to your engine. If you do not regularly change your vehicles oil you will be drastically shortening the life of your engine. The oil basically acts as a lubricant for the car. Failure to change it on a routine basis significantly reduces the engine's life span. Consider using a professional service to change your oil For not much more than you will pay for a new oil filter and 5 or 6 quarts of oil you can have the oil changed professionally.

For ten bucks you can get the best oil and a brand new oil filter. And, it's so easy to do that you could train a monkey to do it. Changing your cars motor oil is a very simple three-step process: 1. Drain the old oil. 2. Replace the oil filter. 3. Add the new oil..Your mother could do it. Doing it yourself seems more logical. And even if you don't have the time eventually you will, Changing your motor oil can be fun.

Most auto manufacturers recommend changing the motor oil every 6,000 miles for normal service, or every 3,000 miles for severe service. Use Valvoline, Quaker State, Pennzoil, or Havoline brand oil. These quality oils contain additives that make them work better and longer.

If you are changing your oil just before winter, use SAE 10W30 weight oil. This number means the oil will have a thin 10 weight viscosity when the engine is cold, helping the engine to start easier, and then the oil will thicken to 30 weight viscosity when the engine warms up, protecting the engine better. If you are changing oil just before summer, use SAE 10W40 weight oil. The extra 40 weight viscosity will protect your engine better when it's hot.

Choosing the Right Type of Truck Toolboxes

6:16 AM

Truck toolbox stores all important tools in a single box. There are many different models with varying features. A simple toolbox can be made more appealing to customers with locks, hinges, mounts and neat subdivisions inside it.

Toolboxes may also vary in the type of material used. Most are made from metal, wood or plastic. Aluminum and stainless steel are popular options because of the advantages. It is lighter to carry and rustproof.

A Professional Rail Top Mount Truck Box is mounted on the side rail. It is usually used by builders and contractors because it is accessible, opening conveniently at the sides. It is made of aluminum and stainless steel. It fits all trucks. It also has water resistant gaskets that protect the box from the changing weather conditions. It has strong lock handles for utmost security, especially when parking the truck in public areas.

The Side Mount Truck Box is also located in the side rail supported by notches. It opens on the top while held by gas struts. It is also made of aluminum and is very durable. This fits all trucks.

The side mount truck toolbox saves a lot of space, especially given that a truck bed is very limited. It gives more room on the floor by being conveniently installed on the sides. This makes it very accessible also. These toolboxes usually have latch guards for more security, keeping them safely installed on the walls of the truck bed. It has mounts and hooks so that there is no need to bore holes on the side of the truck bed.

Most side mount toolboxes are made from aluminum, metal or wood. Some are made of hard plastic also, with door opening similar to a small cabinet.

The Five Drawer Truck Storage Box is also made of aluminum. It is generally smaller that fits only behind the wheel. It has five divisions to segregate tools orderly. Each division can be pulled out separately for more convenience.

If you intend to get one, always consider your truck bed, and see where you want to place the toolbox. Make sure that it will not be an obstacle to other functions of the truckbed. Also consider the material and durability.

Truck beds come in different sizes, depending on how big your truck is. So the size of the toolbox is relative to the size of the truck bed. Also consider where you wish to install the toolbox. If you will not be filling up the bed so much, then a toolbox installed on the floor is good. However, if the bed will be stacked up constantly with bulky materials, then installing a toolbox right behind the wheel or on the side of the bed might be better.

Also consider the type of material. Aluminums are generally lighter yet durable. Plastics may be the cheaper option but may be more easily damaged. If the truck will travel frequently on hard, uneven roads, and will be exposed constantly to changing weathers, then consider investing on heavy duty toolboxes.

The best toolboxes that you would choose should be the one that will fit all your tools. A toolbox would be useless if you can not put your tools on it. It is best that you choose the one that will surely fit all your available tools.

Think Your Car Is Safe From Theft? Guess Again!

6:15 AM

What do a 1995 Honda Civic, a 1991 Honda Accord, and a 1989 Toyota Camry have in common with a 1997 Ford F-150 and a 1994 Chevy C/K 1500 pickup? According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, you guessed correctly if you said they all top the list for the most stolen cars in the US over the last two years! Surprisingly, auto thieves do not typically target the new cars with all the bells and whistles, instead preferring the somewhat more innocuous and less visible older car. The reason thieves target older vehicles are varied:

These vehicles provide the best market for parts resale.
Older cars do not have the newest security features and therefore it's easier to circumvent security.
There are a greater number of older cars on the road; their theft is less conspicuous and less expected.
Drivers become more complacent as their cars age, and are more likely to leave cars open and unprotected.

According to a 2006 statistic, a car is stolen every 26.4 seconds. Though auto theft is on the decline overall, current economic conditions suggest crime rates are expected to soar in coming months as people become more desperate. In addition, even though auto theft has been on the decline, it still represents the most expensive form of property crime in the US today.

The NICB offers the idea of 'layered protection' for your vehicle. Thieves will steal whatever they can if given sufficient time, so the idea is to fortify your car with as many 'layers' as you can and within the scope of your budget. The more layers of protection you add, the more difficult your car will be to steal since thieves will be more likely to move on to an easier target.

1. Common Sense - On cold winter days, nearly every one of us has been guilty of leaving the car running with the doors unlocked as we run back into the house for a forgotten item. And during the hot summer months, who doesn't leave their windows open slightly in order to keep the car cooler? Thieves pick up on these visual cues and recognize when your car is most vulnerable. Since it takes an experienced car thief only about a minute to gain access to your car, they will be in and out before you know it. Always lock doors, close windows, and remove keys and valuables from your car. No matter how quick the trip.

2. Warning Device - Visual cues are important to preventing theft. Don't keep thieves guessing; let them know you have anti-theft devices installed to deter the theft and vandalism of your vehicle. Car alarms are the most obvious audible cue, however steering column locks (clubs), decals, and identification stickers that are visibly located are all clues to a thief that your car is going to require a great deal of work to steal.

3. Security Films - Once a thief is in your vehicle - even if they cannot steal it - they can do a lot of damage. It's therefore imperative to stop them from ever getting in by installing security window films such as VehicleGARD that make the glass harder to break. Even after several forceful blows, the criminal will likely abandon any attempt and move on because they will simply be creating too much attention-getting noise. The key is to keep intruders out in the first place.

4. Immobilizers - Kill switches and smart keys prevent thieves from hot wiring your car in the event they do gain access to your vehicle. Though typically costly, some insurance companies offer a reduction in insurance rates for those who install immobilizers.

5. Tracking Device - If you have followed all of the previous suggestions, it will be very unlikely your car will even be a target, let alone actually stolen. Tracking devices are a last resort that help recover your stolen vehicle.

Protecting Your Car

6:15 AM

There is a very cheap and highly effective way of protecting your car - so cheap is it you don't need to use all of your stimulus check from the government to make sure your vehicle keeps its looks despite the weather, birds, kids playing around it or the adverse effect of water causing rust and serious damage to the structural integrity of your pride and joy!

Investing in a car cover allows you to keep your car out in the open, perhaps because the garage is full or you don't have one. Parking your vehicle in the sun causes the paintwork to fade and become discolored, and just like you on the beach, adding a protective layer will stop your car from getting a serious dose of sun burn. Choosing a car cover that will protect your investment is essential and yet it is so easy to do!

You need to choose a car cover that will fit your vehicle easily and ensure proper protection. Make sure the car cover is made from a flexible and lightweight material that will allow easy handling and fitting while at the same time, can be stored with the minimum of space and fuss. A good man made material will also allow the car cover to be stored for long periods of time when not in use, say in the summer if you only want the cover in operation during the winter months.

A good man made car cover will also be completely water proof so water cannot get to the bodywork and start corroding the metal framework which quickly creates unsightly marks on the paint job and will lead to a serious damage to the car. When the time comes to sell your vehicle, the appearance of the paint work is going to be a major factor in maintaining the value you can expect to get from selling the car on. You can clean and polish your car as frequently as you want, but unless you are going to protect the finished product you will have to increase the maintenance cycle and still will not be able to stop the deterioration in the appearance of your car unless you have it under cover.

A car cover will also be tough enough to withstand minor bumps and scratches from children and animals hitting the car with a ball or having the friendly neighborhood cat using the hood as a great place to perch on. A robust man made car cover will be able to withstand the impact of other car doors being opened and hitting your bodywork causing scratches and dings so many of us take for granted.

So while you may invest your stimulus check in a new automobile, make sure you also invest a few bucks into a good quality car cover which you can use to ensure you get the full enjoyment from having a great looking car as well as making sure you protect the value of the vehicle higher than your neighbor who is not using a car cover at all.

The Entertainment And Auto Sound System

6:15 AM

If you've been shopping lately for an auto sound system then I am fairly certain that you've come across several full entertainment systems among those in the running for your audio and entertainment dollars. Vehicles today offer everything from DVD players, individual speakers, headphones (also individually adjustable), and even dual players that will allow one different audio to be played in one section of the vehicle than another. In addition to all of these wonderful and nifty devices are many more devices that are meant to tempt, sway, and convince you to spend even more money on the auto sound system of your dreams. Some of these even offer MP3 players that connect directly to the audio system of your car, truck, or SUV.

The jury is still out for many people about the safety and sense of having a DVD player in your automobile. While this is the case, people will continue purchasing DVD players are part and parcel of their sound and entertainment systems and manufacturers will continue putting together attractive packages that offer these devices to consumers while offering incredible bargains on installation. I know that many feel that this is an unnecessary distraction to drivers. I'm one of the rare people that feels that in a day of laptops, cell phones, talk radio, fast food, Starbucks coffee, and multitasking, a DVD in the back might be one of the best features that can be added to the car in an effort to minimize distractions coming from the direction of disgruntled passengers in the rear.

I will confess that many people wonder what this has to do with an auto sound system and I can understand that question so please bare with me. One of the features that sound system manufacturers are offering is a feature that allows individual headphones for passengers in the back along with LCD monitors that rest in the back of the head rests so that passengers in the back can both see and hear the DVDs being played without causing a distraction for the driver (either by noise or by means of flashing lights).

The truth of the matter is that having the noise from a DVD player in the back is no worse of a distraction than having disgruntled children competing for your attention from the backseat or listening to audio books as you drive along. I must admit that audio books are one of my current and readily admitted addictions. The problem with those is that on occasion some of the books simply aren't meant for young ears. I try to keep my books limited to popular stories that are suitable for children whenever my children are riding along and save the sometimes steamy and often hilarious tales of Stephanie Plum for when I'm riding alone. Another great reason to make sure you have an auto sound system that at the very least reads and understands MP3s.

The technology exists for this and I expect to see even more innovations technologically speaking in the way of auto sound systems and entertainment systems in the near and not so near future. We live in a world where technology is constantly evolving and we should see many new and wonderful features that will make our lives much more enjoyable for our daily commute.

Whether you are new to the technology of today, fighting it mightily, or happily embracing it-it isn't showing any signs of stopping or slowing down. This means that you will eventually have to face the fact that the old ways of buying an auto sound system will soon be obsolete. I often joke that we are rapidly becoming a society that is catching up with the 'Jetson's' vision for the future. I also loudly lament my lack of a Rosie. At any rate, I am glad to see that the new technologies in auto sound systems are offering less of a one size fits all image and offering much more individual systems, even for passengers within a vehicle.

Review of the Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec

6:15 AM

When someone is thinking about buying a car, one of the things that they generally do is some research. They might like the way that a particular car looks, but that doesn't mean that the car is really suited to them or that it will give them everything that they need and want. One of the most popular cars today is the Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec. This car is one that you instantly feel comfortable with. Some cars are expensive and pretentious and make you feel like you shouldn't even be driving them unless you're wearing a suit. These can be great cars, but they really aren't for everyday - at least not for most people. The Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec, though, is the t-shirt and jeans of cars in the best kind of way. This particular Fiesta is going global, as well, because it's coming to Asia and the United States by 2010, economy permitting. It's got a friendly dash layout, knee airbags (which are great in a small car like this), and it's generally just cute. It's not that fast and you won't break any land speed records with it, but it's a great car for an inexpensive price, and that's what a lot of people are looking for.

Younger people love cars like this because they are small and their parents can often afford to purchase them. The Fiesta is also very stylish, which earns it a lot of points with the younger generation and the older one alike. At a cost of just under thirteen-thousand Pounds this is a surprisingly inexpensive car for everything that it offers, and that's going to make it a popular choice for a very long time to come. The 1.6 litre engine and top speed of 120mph won't hurt anything, either. This is the seventh generation of the Ford Fiesta and it's been the third most popular car in the UK for quite some time. With this newest generation, it's possible that it could move up in the ranking. Whether it does or not, those who have a soft spot for Fiestas and those who just like little cars with a bigger car feel and some cute and stylish class will enjoy this great addition to the Fiesta name.

Chrysler Not Viable, Sixty Days to Save General Motors

6:15 AM

Late last year, Chrysler and General Motors received 17.4 billion Dollars from the US taxpayer to avoid the auto makers being forced into chapter 11 bankruptcy. Three months later, the two companies have failed to secure 21.6 billion in further loans from the American government. A move that now leaves both companies in a perilous predicament.

Chrysler, the smaller of the two companies, has had the most damning condemnation when it comes to its future, with the Auto Task Force appointed by Barak Obama coming to the conclusion that Chrysler is 'not viable' in its current form. As a result, Chrysler will get enough working capital to last thirty days, thirty days in which it must conclude its proposed alliance with the European carmaker Fiat. If this merger fails to materialize, the future of Chrysler looks extremely bleak, with Chapter 11 bankruptcy looking like the only option for the third largest automaker in the US.

The news for General Motors isn't much better, with the one time world's largest car manufacturer being given sixty days to dramatically restructure and cut costs. A restructuring that has already cost the chief executive Rick Wagoner his job. Forced out at the request of the President because the White House said that the present restructuring plans were insufficient and needed to be far more aggressive if the company is to have any long term future.

Even more worrying for General Motors is the realisation that the government are thinking that a 'quick court-supervised restructuring' may prove to be the best option for success. A 'court-supervised restructuring' can surely only mean chapter 11 bankruptcy, a move that could decimate any future sales and as a result plunge the company even deeper into the mire. Talk of a Warranty Commitment Plan - government backed warranty schemes for both Chrysler and GM - will do nothing to increase consumer confidence and if anything may have a negative effect. If either company has a viable future, why do they need the government to back up warranties? As was seen in the UK with MG Rover, government backed schemes can effectively speed up the process of failure.

Bankruptcy though, may be the only way GM can survive. Talks with the unions and bondholders have been painfully slow, leading many analysts to think that the only way GM can be restructured is through the courts. With the inevitable backlash that suppliers would feel if either company went bankrupt, hopes are that both companies can meet the demands of the government. A failure to do so will no doubt lead to job losses on a massive scale, job losses that would not just affect GM and Chrysler, but may also drag Ford further into the picture.

So with 30 and sixty days left respectively, Chrysler and GM find themselves in a position where they will have to comply with the Auto Task Force recommendations. Failure to do so can only result in one outcome. An outcome that would have repercussions throughout the world, not just in America.

A Way to Introduce Your Child to Mini Pocket Rockets

6:15 AM

As a way of introducing your child to the world of motor sport, the mini moto bike is a difficult opening gambit to beat. The concepts which make motorcycling what it is, and as popular as it is, are introduced by these machines, which are a way of getting your child to learn the basics and principles of the sport at an age when they legally and in most cases physically cannot ride a full-sized motorbike. There is a lot assumed about mini motos - but what is the real deal with them, and what are the reasons why they are so popular?

A mini moto is typically used on private land, with the permission of the landowner. They can be road legal for riders over sixteen years of age, but the age restrictions for off-road use are less prohibitive, with children as young as twelve capable of riding them. You should always make sure there is a responsible adult available to supervise children riding mini motos, and that they have the appropriate safety gear because, as we all know, the early stages of riding any kind of two-wheel vehicle are rarely without their spills.

The bikes themselves have a handling and powering system based very faithfully on those of full-sized motorbikes, making them an ideal way for the young rider to learn the ropes of motorcycle sport - from technique to technical specs, and from safety to skill. Due to their specifications, very few of these machines are street legal, with the emphasis being on riding on private land to learn the way and to enjoy the feeling of moving at greater speed than usual.

Many of the bikes go no faster than 30 miles per hour, so despite the accusations of danger often levelled at mini motos, the truth is they are often no more dangerous than a typical pedal bicycle. The major difference, and the most enjoyable aspect for children, that sets these bikes apart from pedal bikes is the use of an engine. It's not a powerful engine, generally being no stronger than a four-stroke driven by a chain, but the power isn't important. The main thing that sells these bikes is that they are a step up between typical pedal bikes and the motorcycles that have always been hugely popular.

The important issue of safety should not be pushed to one side even considering the above. It is important to realise that even at 10 miles per hour, a crash can be dangerous and at the very least enormously painful. Momentum can do some damage, and this is why if you are looking to buy your child a mini moto, you should also be ready to pay for the correct gear to guarantee your child's safety. This is not limited to a crash helmet. You should also make sure to buy knee and shin pads, and ideally racing leathers too - when coming off a bike the rider is likely to slide some distance, causing what can be enormously painful friction.

Should I Lease or Buy a Car?

6:16 AM

It's the common dilemma that faces every auto-consumer out there: Pay cash upfront or forego the ownership and pay monthly settlements instead? Buy or lease for a new set of wheels?

As is the case with every other common dilemma, there is no slam-dunk answer. Each option has its own benefits and drawbacks, and it all depends on a set of financial and personal considerations.

First, your finances. Affordability is clearly key, and you need to ask the question of how stable is your job and how healthy is your general financial situation. The short-term monthly-cost of leasing is significantly lower than the monthly payments when buying: you only pay for 'the portion' of the vehicle's cost that you use up during the time you drive it.

If you have a lot of cash upfront, then you can opt to pay the down payment, sales taxes - in cash or rolled into a loan - and the interest rate determined by your loan company. Buying effectively gives you ownership of the car and that feeling of 'free driving' that goes on providing transportation.

If, say, you want to get into luxury models but can't afford the upfront cash of purchasing the vehicle than you're a good candidate for leasing. Unlike buying, it gives you the option of not having to fork out the down payment upfront, leaving you to pay a lower money factor that is generally similar to the interest rate on a financing loan. However, these benefits have a price: terminating a lease early or defaulting on your monthly lease payments will result in stiff financial penalties and can ruin your credit. You need to make sure you carve out the monthly lease payment in your budget for the foreseeable future, at least for the duration of the lease.

Besides the financial aspect, making a buy or lease decision depends on your own particular lifestyle choices and preferences. Think about what the car means to you: are you the sort of person to bond with the car or would you rather have the excitement of something new? If you want to drive a car for more than five years, negotiate carefully and buy the car you like. If, on the other hand, you don't like the idea of ownership and prefer to drive a new car every two to three years then you should lease. Next, factor your transportation needs: How many miles do you drive a year? How properly do you maintain your cars? If you answer is: 'I drive 40,000 miles a year and I don't really care much about my cars as I don't mind dealing with repair bills', then you're probably better off buying. Leasing is based on the assumption of limited-mileage, usually no more than 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year, and wear-and-tear considerations. Unless you can keep within the prescribed mileage limits and keep the car in a good condition at the end of your lease, you might incur hefty end-of-lease costs.

Looking For a Quality Used Car Online

6:16 AM

Car dealerships with astute business minds will have their own website. If you are looking for a quality for value for money when buying a previously owned car, the Internet is the place to go. You will be able to find car dealerships within your local or region fast-saving you time and energy of thumbing through car sales magazines and newspapers.

There are some distinct advantages to using an online car dealership. You will be able to go to the home page to get an instant overview of the type of business they are. Visit the 'about us' page to find out their history, how long they have been trading and who they work in partnership with.

The navigation bar instantly shows you all of the services and products available. This will also provide valuable information at a glance. So if you are looking for parts and servicing or finance it is all simply a click away.

Testimonials are always worth reading. These will give you an insight to other customer's views on the service they received. This often includes after sales service. Although it would be naive to realise that they are only going to put positive comments online-having other people's views publicly displayed indicates that the dealership is serious about their customer relationships.

One of the key advantages for using web sites is that the company will have made it easy for you to find the types, models and price ranges simply by filling in 'search by' fields. Within seconds-depending on your Internet facilities and speed-a list of all cars which match your search will be displayed.

You will also be able to sign up for email alerts-sending you lists of latest stock information. What's more if you can't find what you are looking for or prefer to talk to someone the phone number is prominently shown. It is even possible to book test drives online at a time and on a day to suit you-within normal trading hours.

Another key advantage of using a web site is the full detailed descriptions provided for each car. This informs you of how many previous owners, along with all important high quality photographs-no smudgy hard to see photographs- along with manufacturer specification details of each car. The cost will also be displayed, leaving you under no illusion as to asking the price. Special offers and price reduction will also be shown.

When you find a car which you are interested in or whether you simply want to go along to the dealership to browse the available stock, premises location maps are also included on the web site. It is also possible for dealerships who work in partnership to deliver your choice nationwide if it is not being held at your local dealership. This means that thousands of cars across the nation are just a click away.

All in all whether you are browsing to see what's on offer before you make a decision or looking for quality used cars to buy immediately online is the place to go.

Finally the Ford Fiesta Hits US Shores

6:15 AM

Last time the Fiesta was in the US was between 1978 and 1980, before it was replaced by the Escort. Not that long really for a car that has sold successfully in Europe for over thirty years. But things are about to change as Ford rolls out the Fiesta Movement and on the face of it, the response seems to be fairly positive. So does the Fiesta have the potential to become a truly global car?

The 'Fiesta Movement' as Ford has branded the project, involves 100 drivers, selected from over 3,300 young drivers', who will get a European built Fiesta to drive, for free, for six months. In return for the car the 'agents' as Ford calls them, will be assigned monthly drives that take them to new places to meet new people and make video diaries of their experiences that will be posted on YouTube and other social media sites. This will hopefully create a buzz in the market demographic that Ford are targeting, so called 'millennials' born between 1979 & 1985. A demographic that Ford says 'Making up 28% of the driving age population, the potential size of the market serves as an opportunity for Ford to connect with a group that hasn't yet established brand loyalty and is very connected to the use of technology and social networking'.

Alongside the 100 Fiesta's earmarked for the Movement, Ford has also brought in a further 40 vehicles for use in marketing and to let journalists test drive. Feedback has so far been positive with many journalists seeming quite surprised at the build quality and the overall performance of the test cars. But why the surprise? The Fiesta is the second best selling car in Europe, it has made its mark where it counts, sales. Since the launch of the seventh generation Fiesta in August 2008, Ford has sold 118,000 units in Europe. Admittedly the North American Fiesta will be assembled in Mexico but it should still be similar to the test cars, cars with a proven track record.

The Fiesta's being used for the US trial are all five door hatchbacks and at this moment in time it is unlikely that the three door variant will make its way over the pond, there is however a four door saloon being prepared for the 2010 launch. As of yet the exact specification of the US model has not yet been decided by Ford and it could well be influenced by the feedback that comes from their agents. Small changes will also have to be made to comply with American regulations. Engine types and sizes have also yet to be determined, but it would be nice if the clean diesel technology that is so popular in Europe could find its way into at least a couple of models.

So, with the Fiesta also enjoying success in China and Asia, a successful launch and sales pitch in America could make the Fiesta one of the first truly global cars. If this happened Ford could once again become the global player it once was.

Reasons to Shop Online for Auto Insurance

6:15 AM

How long ago did you purchase your auto insurance? If it's been more than a couple of years, you should seriously consider shopping online for auto insurance coverage. With the sophisticated online tools available for requesting auto insurance quotes, it's a simple matter to find out if the coverage you have today is still the best bargain.

Before we talk about the ease of receiving online quotes, let's look at the reasons someone would want to explore new coverage. One of the most common is rising insurance premiums. While we might expect higher premiums if our driving record is shaky, that's not the only reason some insurers raise their rates.

Poor credit, a more expensive vehicle or a change in marital status are only a few of the reasons your insurance carrier may raise your rates. Not all insurance companies, though, use the same criteria. That's why using a convenient online rate comparison tool is a good idea.

Another reason to shop your auto insurance is that, if you've been working through a 'captive agent' for years, she may not have the ability to offer you better coverage. In other words, if the products she represents aren't the best choice for you any longer, it may be time to look beyond her company. Loyalty and service should always be considered in business transactions, but if you're paying far more to keep the same agent, you need to count that cost.

There's one more thing to consider if you're working through a captive agency. If you're moving outside their geographic area, you'll probably be assigned to another agent in your new location. It makes sense to shop for coverage before you lock yourself back in to the same company, just to make sure you're getting the best value.

Once you've decided you'd like to compare your auto insurance rates with other companies', there are several ways to go about that process. As we mentioned, some insurance companies offer their coverage through captive agents. By watching local ads, you could learn which companies are represented by local agencies and visit each for a rate quote.

You could also go online to those insurance companies' websites and make your requests there. Once you've gathered those individual quotes, sit down and compare coverage, premium rates and what you know about each company's claims service. Based on those factors, decide which insurer offers you the best value.

If going through that process sounds too time-consuming, why not take advantage of one of the online insurance comparison tools? These websites allow you to enter your information once into an online application, then produce a rate comparison for several insurance companies at once. Some even offer customer ratings, so you'll know how well they service claims. You can then contact the company offering the best value for more information.

Whether you choose to visit individual insurance agencies or streamline the rate comparison process online, periodically shopping your auto insurance coverage is a good idea. You may even be able to use the information you gather to negotiate a better rate with your current insurer.

Even if you decide your current coverage is the best value, you'll have made that decision based on facts rather than assumptions. The ease of comparing coverage online gives everyone the chance to know for sure.

Classic Car Financing

6:16 AM

When financing a classic car purchase, your best option is to choose a specialty lender that deals with classic cars and collector cars. You will likely find a better interest rate, longer loan terms, and go through less work than if you choose a typical lender. This article will show you how to finance a classic car purchase, and what pitfalls to look out for.

The main reason to shop around specialty car loan lenders is the less hassle you will have to go through. These lenders deal with classic and collector car loans all the time, and they can help guide you through the purchase. Standard lenders sometimes use Kelley Blue Book or NADA price guides for classic cars and that just won't work, especially for hot rods and other customs or special editions. Having original parts and other unique options on a collector car can add value, and specialty lenders understand this. Specialty lenders can also extend the loan term, sometimes up to 12 to 15 years depending on the amount being requested. Typical auto lenders generally go up to five years.

Before you even start the loan process, you will want to check your credit score. If your FICA score is around 600 or lower, you may have a difficult time getting a loan. Anything in the 600's and you may qualify, but you may have a higher interest rate. Anything above 700 and you should have no problems securing a loan, plus you will get the added benefit of having a lower interest rate. Any lender will require 20% down on a classic car loan, and usually 30% for a hot rod.

Most specialty lenders do not require you to have a car ready for purchase before applying for the loan. You generally have 30 to 60 days after being approved to find a car, otherwise you may need to go through the approval process again. When determining the loan amount, do not forget about hidden costs of purchasing a collector car. Odds are, especially if you are looking for a certain model, color, option, etc. that you will not find it in your area. The internet can be a great tool in helping you find the exact car you are looking for, but that car is probably in another state or region, requiring travel and transportation. You may want to travel to see the car, which will cost money, and you will need to transport it back if you do not want to drive it. Depending on how far away the car is, driving it may not be an option due to strict insurance restrictions. All this may be able to be rolled into the loan amount. Talk to your lender about these options.

Many lenders require an inspection of the car by a qualified inspector. The lender will be able to help with this, since they probably have certain inspectors they require you to use. Many buyers choose to have their car inspected before purchase anyhow, so make sure you talk to the lender before deciding on an inspection company. If the inspector you choose is not certified by your lender, you may be required to purchase another inspection, costing hundreds of dollars more.

Even if you have the money saved to buy a collector car outright, it may be in your best interest to pursue a classic car loan. Over the last 15 to 20 years, the value of collector and classic cars have gone up sharply, sometimes 10% or more a year. Considering a classic car loan is probably 6% or so, this makes borrowing the money an investment. But be careful during these economic down times and do your research. Rare and original models are still going up in value, but clones and other mid models are not rising in value as fast as they once did. This could change at anytime though.

There is no better feeling than driving around in your new classic car. Hopefully this article will help you in securing a low interest loan, and speed up the process so you can drive around town in your new ride, rather than dealing with headaches you may have by going through a typical lending company.

Pros and Cons of Car Leasing

6:16 AM

One of the greatest benefits of leasing a car is that there is often no upfront costs, whereas when you finance a vehicle you often have to put a large sum of money down. Leases require little or no down payment and there are no upfront sales tax payments. Another pro is that the monthly payments are typically cheaper than they would be to finance the same vehicle and you get the pleasure of owning a new vehicle every few years. When it comes to leasing, you are essentially renting the car for a fixed length of time, usually anywhere from twenty four up to sixty months and you will only pay for the use (or depreciation) of the car for that period of time. Also, you are not responsible for absorbing the full depreciation cost of the vehicle when leasing.

Leasing a car will never put you in the upside down position many people find themselves in when financing a car, especially with the new finance rates going up to seven and eight year terms. Leasing is also a good option for business owners who may be able to write off some or all of the expenses associated with leasing a vehicle, depending on how much it is used for business purposes.

Leasing does have its downfalls as well, such as the fact that you will always have a car payment if you lease one vehicle after another. As long as you lease you never really own a car, though you do have the option to buy it out at the end of the lease.

The mileage restriction of leasing can be a major drawback for some people, particularly sales people who have to travel for work or people who live far away from family and like to visit often. Most leases restrict your mileage usage to somewhere between 12,000 and 15,000 kilometers per year and for some people this is just nowhere near enough. If you go over your allotted miles, you can expect to pay about 15 cents per kilometer that you have gone over. It may not sound like much, but if you go over your limit by 4,000 kilometers, that can end up costing you around $600 at the end of your lease.

One other downside to leasing is that insurance companies tend to charge higher coverage costs for leased vehicles; however, depending on your age, driving record and place of residence, the additional cost may not be too much.

Don't Become a Car Thief's Next Victim

Don't Become a Car Thief's Next Victim
by Catelin McGlothlin

Although car theft in the United States decreases slightly every year, it's still a significant problem. According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), the U.S. motor vehicle theft rate in 2007 was 363.3 per 100,000 people. Every 28.8 seconds a car is stolen (2008 FBI data). Theft of components is also a problem, with 75,000 stolen airbags a year reported by the III. The problem is worst in urban areas. The South and West each account for about 36 percent of all car thefts in the country. Taken together, these two regions were the scene of nearly three-quarters of motor vehicle thefts in the United States.

The III reported dismal statistics in 2007 on apprehending car thieves, with an arrest rate of only 12.6 percent. Furthermore, the the National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that year that 41 percent of stolen vehicles were never recovered. If your car is stolen, there isn't much you can do after the fact except call the police and file an insurance claim. Meanwhile, you won't have transportation unless you either rent a car or go out and buy another one. It's much better to take the following precautions to prevent car theft before it happens to you.

* Lock your vehicle and don't leave it running. Your car's door locks are the cheapest, easiest deterrent against car thieves. Don't leave sunroofs or windows open, even on the hottest days. Leaving your car running while you're not around is an open invitation for theft. Law enforcement officials stress that many cars are stolen on a whim for joyriding purposes because the owner made it easy for the thief.

* Parking is an issue, both at home and away. At home, use your garage and lock it up, especially night. On-street parking can be a haven for thieves, especially in high-crime areas, so choose spots with good lighting and a good flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

* Don't give a car thief extra incentive. Take your purse, briefcase, or electronic gadgets with you instead of leaving them in the car. Instead of keeping your car's paperwork in the glovebox, carry it with you and make copies for other family members. Most of all, don't deal with your tendency to forget your keys by keeping an extra one attached to the vehicle somehow. Car thieves know all the best spots to find hidden keys, and if they find yours, they don't even have to break a window to steal your car.

* If you want to add an extra shield of protection, a number of devices are available that can go a long way toward making your car theftproof.

Car security comes in many types and price ranges. At the most basic level, a simple steering wheel lock or brake pedal lock is an inexpensive way to secure your vehicle and is visible to thieves who might be sizing your vehicle up.

The popularity of car alarms is testimony to their effectiveness, and every year they get better. The latest improvements in vehicle security technology consist of highly efficient sensors that detect signs of theft like changes in air pressure, telltale sounds like shattering glass, and changes in elevation from front to rear or side to side. Thieves who jack up your car to remove the wheels or use a tow vehicle to steal your car now have less chance of success. Even the basic alarm consisting of a pressure switch on each door hooked to a siren or the car's horn can go a long way toward chasing off the would-be car thief.

Immobilizing devices, also known as kill switches, work by disabling vital components necessary to start your car, such as the fuel pump or the battery circuit. Radiofrequency identification devices (RFIDs) only allow your car to start if you use an ignition key that emits an electronic signal.

Tracking devices can use either the cars onboard GPS system or radiofrequency technology to track your cars whereabouts after its stolen and increase your chances of getting it back. Some insurance companies offer their customers discounts on tracking devices as well as a premium discount for using these technologies.

Avoiding the car models that are most popular with thieves is another way to keep from becoming a victim. Crooks like late-model luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade and the Hummer H2 because of their high resale price. If a thief has a chance to choose between stealing an SUV and stealing a small car, odds are eight times higher that the SUV owner will be the victim.
