The price of gas has gone up AGAIN? If you're an RV driver, it's just amazing how much you can spend on a single week for fuel. It seems like those gasoline prices are never going to come back down again. What do you have to do... stay in one place!?!

Don't worry, it doesn't have to come to that. There is cheap fuel out there, and there are ways to find it. There are also ways to cut down on the amount you buy. Here are some tips on saving money on those RV trips.

Shop for Fuel Efficiency
Basically, bigger RV's burn more gas. The smaller model you get, the less you can expect to pay. I know this tip doesn't help much if you already own your motor home, but if you haven't bought yet, or are thinking of upgrading, it's something to keep in mind. Another thing to remember is that the lighter you travel the less fuel you will use. Pack light and you'll save a little at the pump.

Slow Down, Pardner
I hate to ruin your fun, but driving slow helps a lot to save you money. Just 5 miles per hour can make a huge difference in your RV living budget. Go a little slow and take in the sights. Heck, that's why we're on the road anyway, to see all there is between Point A and Point B. (By the way, it will also save a little on your motor home's wear and tear, and that's always a good thing, too)

Where You Buy Matters
Here's one way to spot quality petrol: Look for a station that is busy. This is because fresh gas is better for your engine. A station where there are tumbleweeds blowing across the lot and a car hasn't parked there for a year is going to have old fuel that might be contaminated.

When You Buy Matters
Buy on the weekday, not the weekend. Most stations raise their prices just a little bit on the weekends, so fill up on Thursday or wait until Monday.

Look For Gas Online
Internet access on the road can go a long way to saving you gas money. There are sights for RV drivers and ordinary motorists alike that show you the cheapest rates around. You can check by state, and it will tell you what stations are offering what price per gallon.

Don't Drive So Much!
The easiest way to save is to stay close to home, or to plan your trip well so that you don't have so many long drives. Stop at every little point along the way and enjoy the scenery. Break up the long drives into little jaunts.

Don't let high fuel prices keep your motor home in the garage. Get it out on the road where it's supposed to be. Use your head and research a little and you won't have to use so much money on fuel.
